  • crmod + custom maps

I've heard crmod can run a few custom maps, does anyone know which maps these might be?

So far I haven't been able to get most of the Quakeone.com map pack's maps to run on a crmod server:/

As far as I know you can run any Multiplayer map. I ran the SPC and Q1 servers for a few years using CRMod, regularly rotating the maps to respond from requests/suggestions from players and never had any problem. Ultrav, SPD, A2, B2S, BSP, and lots more all worked fine

I'm note sure it will help but as I recall, once I defined the 9 (or was it 10) custom maps in the userdefs.cfg and you run CRMake it produced the new progs.dat. When the dedicated server was then [re]started with the new progs.dat, ensuring the new maps you have chosen are placed in the server's id1/maps directory, it was fine and dandy.
I did have some issues running the CRMake on occasions but a dl/copy of the original progs.dat over the existing one I created prior to the CRMake solved it.

Similarly I did encounter some map based errors more recently when the ever helpful Zop was busily developing the new version of the Quake Deathmatch Plus mod. This did involve some of the newer maps, rather than the mod itself, and from what I understand it was largely down to spawn points in those 3 or so maps. Unfortunately I haven't got the details that Zop sent me to hand else I could give you the map names to watch out for (Zop feel free to jump in here... ). However i do remember that they were maps used a lot on the Coop servers. have you tried something fairly well tried and tested like Ultrav and aerowalk

Are you getting any errors at any stage?

    Hopet his helps and KR's

AFAIK cr-mod runs all maps just fine.. there is only a limit for the vote-able maps (being only 10).

In order to change to a map that is not in the "levels" list you need to be admin level 0 and in observer mode. then type "cmd changelevel mapname" in console to load any custom map on the server.. check the cr-mod manual for further details..

I ran CRMAKE and uploaded the userdef.cfg+progs.dat last night and was still having the issue, so I left it as is for the morning. But its working flawlessly as of right now! Thanks for the input Peg!

Phenom, when you run crmake, I think you have to start with a fresh progs.dat.

What crmake does is scans the progs.dat file for pre-defined strings to replace with, in your case, a custom mapname. Once that custom mapname overwrites the pre-defined string, crmake can't locate the proper slot to put in a new mapname. This may or may not make sense.

            Thanks Bam,

I suspected it might be something along these lines but it's good to have the detail. This would explain why as soon as I replaced the current progs.dat with the 'master' original one then CRMake would run sucessfully.
