I think you refer to webhostings? Im looking for servers to host a dedicated game for like 16 players. There are a couple on the home page near the lower left, but one seems to be a dead link , and the other seems to be active. Any others that can be added to the list?

look at the top right corner of this website, there are always dedicated server advertisements.

We will only list server hosts that have experience successfully hosting servers for the original Quake and do a good job (do the settings right, provide an appropriate access panel).

Older games like Quake have more servers than players so new permanent servers are not set up that frequently.

As a result, although many companies COULD host a Quake 1 server few have actual experience doing so (there are a couple of pitfalls).

Most of the gaming server providers don't list quake1 as offered games. Quake1 requires a lot less resources from my understanding and if you talk to them most will consider quoting it out for you. They probably need instructions and such to get up and running. r00k, who I feel like I've abused all day on this matter, can contact them with requirements and whats involved in running one if you ask him.. and he's not worn out on the matter yet. We're currently discussing getting a new CAx server setup on another thread.

            see here: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-tal...-location.html

some of the providers I know of... other than fatpipes.

Theres tons.. Some may be the same people with multiple companies offering same services. Just dig in and do the research as to where their servers are hosted and test your ping, etc. As I said.. hardly any offers q1 servers on their sites. Would have to contact them about your needs. Hopefully they will work with you on it.. hehe

and as always.. depending on what you're looking for. Clan HDz may be able to provide a server for your needs free of charge if there aren't already identical setups that HDz already provides to the community.

Good posts Baker & Sunshine. I found a place , they run CentOS, a Linux derivative. If I remember right, there's a I386/WIn Quake client, and the Linux, correct? When I last ran a server I remember it was alot of command line stuff with Linux that was hard to follow. Yea, I was gonna ask Rook about it, he would probably know.

The interface would leave much to desire in my opinion.

Thanks for the comment. I am open to any suggestions anyone may have as to what is the best Linux out there that supports Quake. I know Freebsd supports it too.

Well so far the ones I contacted dont seem thrilled to host a Q1 server. HDZ said they would host it for free, and I have sent them the files, but not heard from them the last few days.

                        a linux to support quake...

again, linux and quake both can run on everything short of Pet Rocks(r)

and they go together like white and rice

                        ..barring hcl/driver issues.

What mod are you wanting hosted? I had told you before that if we already run the mod for the public, chances are it wouldn't happen.

What mod do you want? Who did you talk to at HDz?

I contacted VIS, and emailed him the stuff. No one else has the mod, its based on CTFBOT+ , and its called: Tekbotctf+

Still contacting some other hosts that say they rule at game server hosting - they are either scared to host original netquake, or think ts too complicated to set up. One guy is afraid it will hack into their server and take it over. I told him its open source. DO you think our beloved Quake has a bad name in the general publics eyes?
