Lan Games

Hello everyone, I am new here but not in quake.
I would like to know if is possible to create a lan game changing the mode, for example, create a Rock Arena Lan game or CTF?
Is it possible? Please Help me.

yes you can. You need the mods files and a client to act as the server. I recommend ProQuake 4. There are already tons of posts that are searchable through these forums.


Search on Host Server and the such. We really have a treasure trove of information,its just like needle in the haystack effect.

those are the links you need. Download latest ProQuake , pick out your mods and download.

ProQuake is extracted to your Quake root folder \Quake\ProQuake.exe as example
Mods go in \Quake\arena\ \Quake\3wave\ , etc as such.

Create a shortcut to ProQuake exe file , right click the shortcut properties



you'll need -dedicated if you intent on running a server,and possibly -ip 1.1.1.1 , 1's being changed to your IP address.

The links have much more thorough instructions, but if you can

extract client -> extract mod -> create shortcut -> modify shortcut -> run shortcut -> , that alone should get you started.

i looked in the mod section and i didn't see rocket arena. where do i get it?

usually ill fire up a server on my second box and lan with my gaming rig, both connected to my router.
Boot up one machine to be the server, in Windows 7 i just got to the network and sharing center, then find the advanced network details and obtain the ip from the router, in my case its 192.168.1.101
so in my shortcut I use wqpro.exe -dedicated 4 -game cax -ip 192.168.1.101

thanks for the link rook. i think the mod section needs to be updated so people can download the classic mods for offline use and lan games.

-listen 16
-dedicated 16

many custom engines support a 'maxplayers' console command which will go up to 16 or so, but you can only change it if there's no map running yet.

Download pro quake and crmod
Run WQpro with -dedicated 16 -zOne 1024 -game crmod
