i was curious. if i host a server, is there a way for them to connect to a letter type of address rather than my ip? example: instead of (ip address), they could connect using "chicken.chicken.chicken".

Yes sir. If you do not have a static IP then you could look into Dynamic DNS. This will allow you to use a web address for you server through which the clients can connect. Try no-ip.com or DynDNS.com for further details.
The down side is that a) Unless you are going to part with some cash you have to choose one of their node addresses (hint No-ip offers .servequake.com), b) if your IP changes you have to update the go on to the site and update the web address with you new IP accordingly. Fortunately there are apps to do this automatically and some routers have it built in.... ...and c) I believe Chicken.chicken.chicken is unavailable.
Hope this helps
