  • Plagues Pack - DP Edit

Figured I'd pack up Plagues weapons to use with the Shambler's Castle pack.
    His models are located here:
    Plague'sPak

However upon installing the md3 version and trying to use in Darkplaces - the muzzle flashes were not working. Gave errors in the console and when fired you got the ugly "grey square".
Well I fixed that and now you can have Plague's weapons with his muzzle flashes working.
All of his weapons are included. I've only shown 3 of the weapons as you get the general idea.

This pack ONLY has the v_models and g_models. There are no projectiles, armor, powerups ect. Just the view models and the weapon pickup models.

If you wish to see all the weapons. Visit Plague's portfolio:
    Portfolio

about 3/4 the way down are all various images of the weapons.

    Hello OoPpEe,

I never played that Doom3 mod long enough to notice that the weapons had custom muzzle flashes.

Watching your screens, I think they are really nice.

I will try to implement them into some weapons I use.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,
    Seven

No there are from Plague's md3 models. If you just dropped his pk3 into DP they didn't work. The md3 models were still named md3 - so DP didn't load them.
Then his shaders were not compatible with DP or badly written - so instead of them working the muzzle flashes were grey squares. This pack just fixed those. Just fixed them so a true pack can be made (weapons + monsters). I may grab the weapon sounds and upload them to use with these too.

The Shamblers Castle mod did use Muzzle Flashes too - however they used the ones from the original DooM 3 weapons - which I cannot distribute. However if you check the pk3 - each weapon has their own muzzle flash texture (which are copies of others) - so easily ripping the ones from DooM 3 to replace them is easy done

I'm actually considering the same thing too. Make a re-release of Rygels weapons and Mine/His Mission Pack weapons and add in the muzzle flashes. Sadly would require a reanimation - but highly doable.

you got me wanting flashes after trying these so i added a simple one into my shotgun animation.

can't the flashes be added using the game engine so it will work with all weapons.. basically that's the reason I left them out back in the days, another idea I had was to add a flat box as the flash and have a texture with some alpha channel transparency.. this also was not that wildly supported by the engines back then, what's the news today?

That's how the muzzle flashes were done on these models. A textured square with a alpha channeled texture. What I said I was considering doing, could greatly speed up the process if I had your model source files (mesh and animation files ).
As far as I know there's no automatic muzzleflash option yet.

everything is back home... have to install some 3d software again once I get there and get a hold of a working md3 exporter for max, but would only take a few minutes to add a flat box for all the models and export a new set the question is, are they being used as md3 or mdl nowdays? md3 could have a seperate texture for the muzzle flash so wouldn't have to squeeze that in to any of the existing textures

Mainly md3's (but have to rename to mdl for Darkplaces to load it).
