  • Looking for a Qualified Mapper to Finish a Map

So, I've been out of the Quake community for a good couple of years now. I stopped by this weekend for whatever reason and thought I'd finally register an account.

After considering it for a bit, it was always a thorn in my side that a buddy of mine and I made a really sick DM3-like map over the course of several months and many play trials -- about nine years ago -- and it never got officially released because it never quite got finished. Some of you had the opportunity to play it and it had positive feedback in general.

I no longer possess the know-how or the time, but since JP Grossman decided to contribute something to the community after a decade, I figured why the hell not. I would like to find someone that is up to the task of decompiling one of my beta BSP files and then working with me to resolve a texture issue and a couple of other very minor things; maybe add in some locations and what not or whatever it is people like for playability these days in multiplayer, and then officially release it as a final product for the remaining die hard Quake community.

Let me know if you're interested.

    Regards,

    Ryan

Woah, hey its been ages!! Glad to see you've made it back to the gibbing fields

Hopefully you registering a the forums in 2013, means more than submitting a DM3 variant (although THANKS, these are always welcomed. You should check out 150dm3.bsp and dm3again.bsp, created by Zop.

Zop is a excellent mapper,so is r00k. They both know their way around the respective programs they use fairly well. I would like to check out whatever it is you've got myself, I have mapping programs but suck at it...

do you have a google email or AIM/other messenger services? I am on lots of them + IRC, let's keep in touch.

It would be VERY easy if you had the original .map files.
Decompiling would be doable but will create errors and take more time.
I remember this map and played several different versions. It's a fun map.
      Actually i think i still have a couple versions still.. dydm1beta1,beta2, beta5, and beta6
the what i thought was the final is here http://quakeone.com/qrack/maps/dy.bsp

oh and i found a loc file for beta5

wow the filedates on those beta versions are from 2003 !

Haha, yeah... it's been a long time. And yes Mindz, I'll try to do more than just a DM3-alike [2013 registration is pretty awesome on this though hahaha], although it will probably be in other respects than playing. If I can get more involved in the developer community, I will.

Ya, R00k, unfortunately, that's been part of the major problem. I think I revisited this in 2006 or thereabouts and Colin could never find the original .map files. Now he's burdened with two kids and fell completely off the face of the planet... so if it is ever going to be done, it would require the extra effort of decompiling and sorting through what errors were made.

The beta6 version I had was the "finalized" version except for a failed texture and a step bug that would make one get stuck. Other than that it was more or less ready to go.

Haha, I never knew any version was posted out. Guess that shows how much I was on forums.

I have Google mail, and you can probably reach me on google+, but probably the main "messenger" service I use is Facebook, only because I don't really use messenger services much any more and the people I talk to the most live on the other side of the world where Facebook is really their main way of communicating with me. I have accounts on all of the messenger services that I can probably figure out in a clutch (like using AIM express).
