  • right-handed SG & SSG (SMC)

    as some of you know i have not long ago made a shotgun model which is based on a remington 870wp (post about it here)

    i wanted to make it usable for quake, but i quickly noticed that my model doesnt look good when centered cuz its realistically narrow instead of bulky and wide like the standard for quake.
    so i tried moving it to side which looked better but it made it seem odd that while the gun was off-center you still fired at dead-center of screen.
    also seeing its a realistic model it seemed weird that there was no arm holding the pump and the weapon seemed to just float.
    with quake-standard centered models you can do that, but imo with a realistic model like mine it just looks weird that there is no hand holding the pump.

    so i decided to try adding the arm from obi-wan's axe view-model, and with some modifying of it to make it look like its holding the arm i finally was happy with how the shotgun looked!

    however there still was the problem of weapon-position not matching where you fired....
    but then i remembered the 'right weapon-position' feature of seven's SMC,
    and i decided to modify my shotgun for use with this SMC feature


    then i had to think of the collaborated SSG from me and bloodshot that I did a few days ago,
    and i decided to also move that SSG to right and add the same arm from obi-wan's axe to it


    DOWNLOAD TAL+BS SHOTGUNS RIGHT-POSITIONED


    to use these, just drop the pk3 in your ID1 folder, and edit the smc_config.cfg (or autoexec.cfg if you are not using SMC5.0)
    and find the line which says set weapon_position_right and set it to 1

    Wow nice addition, talisa! I'll admit I have always overlooked the right hand cvar. These look great! Too bad the other right hand models aren't as fancy! Thx for another fantastic release!

      yeah the right-hand position CVAR is a quite overlooked feature cuz of the fact there are sadly no versions of the available HD-models which are moved over to the right

      with plague's weapons i could easily do this cuz they are all mdl-models and i could easily adjust them in blender.
      but with ruohis models its not as easy to edit them cuz they are md3 and there are no md3 importers available for blender afaik.

        actually, i just for fun made a version of the SG which is slightly less to the right,
        and it actually doesnt look like its much of at all like that when it comes to where it seems to be aiming at

        there is still the thing though that it might seem a bit odd that its the only weapon which actually seems to be held
        and the only weapon which is not perfectly centered, but if you can live with that its kinda neat.

                hmm i thought dp had a cvar to shift the position left or right hand.
                in qrack u can use cl_gun_offset 0 1 2 for centered, left and right
                though this would only use the standard gun models and wouldnt look as cool as
                these replacement models.

                  looks too weird for me lefty or righty. I like dead centery haha

                      if it does i am not aware of such cvar
                      and if it did i dun think seven wouldve gone through the effort to add a feature to make right-handed weapons possible in the SMC

                      well a realistic shotgun looks weird when positioned dead-center as you can see here:

                      yep thats what i said before already, that it might look out of place being the only right-handed weapon.

                      i might have a look if i can mod all HD weapon-models available to be positioned to the right somehow so we'll be able to have a full set of right-handed HD weapons

                      plague's models will be easy since they are MDL, ruohis might be a bit less easy cuz they are MD3 and afaik there are no programs who can edit md3.
                      only know of programs who can export them to other formats but without retaining the animations

                        I started school again but we finished the UT mod and I was actually thinking about doing a little something kinda like this









                        Though my idea was a little different, I wanted to base my textures off of Q1 textures and make them look quite pixelated while being higher quality to let them fit in Q1 as drop in replacements.

                        Basically I wanted to duke-ify or Q2-ify Q1's weapon set with heavily exaggerated animations (like the shotty pumping from Doom, the SNG would have a moving ammo belt, etc.) Though I'd also like to make the weapons in general feel more powerful. I think Q1's original graphics have a certain charm to them and with some more modern looking weapons it could be a good combo.

                            heh that nailgun looks a lot like the chaingun cannon from duke3D like that.
                            you should add a 3rd barrel to it in center

                            but i agree with gypsy though, those models do look kinda cool
