  • Cryogenic Crypt Reimagined

REQUIRES SMC, as there are SMC enemies included in this .ent file (as an experiment currently).

A LONG time ago, a guy called Dan Koppel decided to invest his time into making a true SoA feeling map. The geometric quality was promising, but the problem was the entity placement was terrible! And so, I totally modernized this map after a few months of on and off work. This includes:

    1. Retextureing

    2. Addition of many ambient sounds

    3. Addition of torches and wall zombies

    4. RTlights

    5. Overhaul of enemy placement

    6. Rebalance of ammo placement

    7. Use of lesser known Hipnotic entities such as divine energy and the tesla coil

    8. A ton of additional helpful items for you to find hidden in new, creative ways

    9. Addition and change of sound in many doors, trains, and buttons

    10. New twists on old challenges

    11. Massive gremlin battle because I love gremlins so much

    12. Small changes in level progression

    13. An awesome level in the bloody and dark authentic Hipnotic style!

    INSTRUCTIONS

    Hello Pringles Man,

The screenshots look very red and dark, so I cannot see things so well.
    Your list sounds very promising.

But may I ask you, why you dont modify the map via the regular maps file and a map editor to your personal needs/likings ? I am no mapper but I think that would be much easier than editing .ent files via an engine, no ?
I also edit .ent files a lot but only for some decoration or particles/sound placements, so I know how time consuming it it.

Anyway, great to see your passion for Quake and sharing your work.

    Best regards,
    Seven

Weird that you should ask that! I thought you can only edit .map files and .bsp files were off limits because they were encrypted or something. That would have made life MUCH easier. How can I do this? I will make sure to apply it to my "The Last Bastion" modification too!

These screenshots are dark because of the bloody red fog in the map. Your PC's brightness must be REALLY low though, if you're not seeing anything.

I guess I am partly counting on the flashlight release soon enough, so then it can be EVEN darker : )

Other than that, have you actually played the map? But thank you, as your feedback is always appreciated Seven.

        Hello Pringles Man,

As I said, I am no mapper, but you can do this with Quark it seems: click
JDStoner does it that way. I am sure there are other possibilities as well. Google will tell you.

You are one of the few people who give valuable feedback for the smc (not like many others who only download without saying a word and cannot get their mouth full enough of shit), so I scratched some code together in a hurry and dedicate it to you, as you are a real Hipnotic Lover:

        UPDATE 20140607

        Hipnotic SMC Update v5.02:

        New features:
        - optional: Flying dust, ember and other particles in maps (fully adjustable)
        - optional: Random angled ammo and health boxes in all maps
        - optional: 2 different flashlights to choose from (classic + cubemap)
        - Gremlin will steal some of your current ammo if his attempt to steal your weapon fails now

        Updated features:
        - Gremlins jump behaviour: They will not get stuck at walls or midair anymore.
        - Gremlins steal weapons ability: Now supernailgun and nailgun behave differently
        - Bugfix: "Evil face" monster improvement: dont get stuck anymore and has smarter AI now
        - Added new "Evil face" monster model.
        - Bugfix: Warlords homing missile no longer gets stuck and has a smarter AI now
        - Tarbabies original Quake bug: Get stuck on ledges and steps is now fixed
        - reduced hardware requirements for the mod
        - Fixed console overflow due to missing effect syntax (introduced in SMC v4.71)

Please find new Download links here

I only scratched the most important things together, which are quick to implement, as I have little time atm. As usual the source code is included, so you can add everything else if you want.

        I hope you like it.

I now see how you feel Seven, as this thread has only got one person posting feedback on it despite all that I put into this : (

Mediafire keeps track of download counts, and so far, I've gotten 20 downloads, but only you've given my any kind of response, which is killing my enthusiasm to put more content on here. I guess I was kinda expecting more. But I appreciate your efforts and your responses. It is a joy to see you every day putting so much into this wonderful game, especially its mission packs. IMO, Hipnotic is the most competently put together mission pack that was ever made. The problem with it is, they did not do enough with the great potential that all of its amazing new mechanics such as destructible walls and rotating meshes had to offer in the few maps that came with it. Most people don't like it due to its lack of new weapons or monsters, but I guess they don't realize how good the other, more subtle aspects of it are. Rogue was nice, but it comes far closer to shovelware than Hipnotic ever did. It feels like it was just slapped together in 2 seconds, only to be made for the CTF multiplayer, and even then it was pretty crap on terms of competency in level design and other things.

Going off on a tangent here, but yeah, I will make sure to download the new Hipnotic SMC right away : )

And to everyone else, come on now. 20 downloads, and only one person leaving feedback? This is a tragedy!

Why does the update say 2014?

I am one of your 20 downloaders. I haven't had time to play the whole thing. I will comment more when I have given your mod a fair play-through.

                Hello Mirrorman95,

What it is 2015 already ?
                Time flies...
It was a typo, as you sure have guessed.

Pringles man, what's the color scheme you used in those screenshot? That red light is very dark, obscure and.....evil. I would like to try something similar for my Zerstorer RT lights, in the cathedral where you pick the Sanguinoch. Zerstorer is evil, with that light will be even more evil, yeah

QUARK is outstanding for hacking things in quake. you are still doing the same thing editing the ent file but it is the internal ent file of the map and not an external one that overrides the one in the map. when opening the bps you will have a hard time moving walls as everything is split in to triangles but you can add edit and dealt monsters and power ups all day long. it is easier to use quark because you can see the map and change in the editor. i had a lot of fun doing it and it impressed my kid a lot. as far as impressing any one at quake one it did not. there are a lot of fantastic coders and map makers in the community not all of them appreciate some one changing there hard work. that dose not mean you can't do it or you should not do it. but do it for no other reason but to make you happy and don't expect that any one will have any interest in it other then you. if one other person enjoys or even trys out what you have shared consider your self lucky. but do it for you.

                    happy hacking

Ent files can edit everything except for level geometry. If Quark can edit brushes, I feel like my life would be complete.
