  • Cradle to Grave Quake Remake

    Hello,

I'd like to showcase a level I'm working on, based on Blood's first level, Cradle to the Grave. I'm using Darkplaces along with the Gyro physics mod, with a few minor tweaks to the code I've done.

    http://youtu.be/wqaZqz-MM6g

As far as the future of this project, I'm not sure whether I should continue where Transfusion left off, or start my own version of a Blood mod from scratch.
Regardless, I love Blood, and wanted to created a level of how I think Blood would look if it were a more recent game.

I'm showcasing this video, to build some publication and I am interested in uploading it to an ftp server as soon as possible. Does anyone know of an ftp site that would be interested in hosting this?
Please also give me as much feedback as possible about this level.

    Thank you.

Ruin, what a great work. Thank you for sharing.

You really paid a lot of attention to remake the map as close to the original as possible. Even with the wad textures. Great work!

You asked for lots of feedback so I will try to give some.

While watching your clip I noticed some drawbacks though:
The narrow passages and rooms with lots of obstacles and brushes makes it hard to navigate and you get stuck many times. Also the tiny doors makes it hard to walk though or hit monsters. I think for Quake you need more space overall. You will need to find a compromise to not spoil the fun for the player.

The Quake monsters seem a little out of spec when they come out of toilets
I know from your other thread that you also are doing the qc work, so you could use the original Blood sprite monsters in Quake as well. Sprites are handled just like models in general. And Darkplaces supports oriented sprites. I am not sure if a Blood-Quake monster pack already exists. I will look for it.

For the 2nd secret you need a crouch feature that also takes care of the players bbox size.

You wrote you are a big Blood fan, so you surely know of this project:
M210 Projects - Unreal, eDuke32, BloodTC, DoomTC, Serious Sam, Half-Life, maps, mods
    or visit at moddb:
BloodCM Windows, Linux game - Mod DB

Episode 1+2 are already done and playable and episode 3 is finished 96%. Alexander just made a news entry yesterday. It seems that the next update will be released within the next 4 weeks.

Maybe team up with Alexander [M210] Makarov? You seem to be talented and involved enough to be a huge help.

Anyway, keep us updated about your work. Wherever it may lead.
    Keep up the great work!

      awesome stuff, looks really good

ive always been a big fan of blood, and its great to see some remakes of blood maps

i really like that you didnt make a 1:1 carbon copy but instead made an HD interpretation of the map
but you did keep all the main elements of the map there
and while watching your playthrough i found myself constantly going like 'hey i know this thing/part'

      .

i think it would be a good idea to at least grab assets from transfusion and save yourself the effort of creating assets which already exist from scratch.
why would you make all these items for which already exist models, right?

      .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
      > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread
