  • Reforged-Style BLUD Skin!

    Hi there. So I've dug up impel once again and decided to revamp it a little. I saw the low res blud with a normal map, and I was like, "FUCK, man, this thing could look horrifying." So I made a Reforged-style blud texture with a gloss and normal map to match. I think it looks quite nice, and since I'm not skilled enough to do something like Legond yet, that's all I have. But it's a lot, considering how little people care about AoP.

    I normally don't like to post anything I've done on here, because I know it will one day get lost, and nobody will ever know or care who made it, but meh.




    Well, there you go. There' my treat to you people. I hope this sparks a little bit of interest in AoP again. Maybe someone will fix the (IMO) CRAZY, glitchy blud model. F E E D B A C K P L A Z.

    Side note: I NEVER realized those red things on his face were supposed to be eyes. I thought they were some rosy red cheeks they put on him for some dumb reason. You can see them, but they have no luma map because they make me think of those cheeks I hated so much...

        Thanks for the feedback guys.

        I love your stuff Blood. Hope you can fix those triggered lights somehow

        And as for the google drive thing, I'll consider it, I guess. But first, I have to finish tweaking this and make a public release.

        Depending on how much attention this gets, maybe I'll even do the rest of the enemies too.

          AoP is a bit underrated for me, the only problems I've got with it are the following:

          - Too short: 2-3 more maps would have been a great addiction
          - New powerup: useless. There are I think 2 in the whole game, and are hidden
          - Stupid bugs like ammo pack floating in the air
          - Some sounds are "weird"
          - Legond is a bit "too human" in aspect for a dark minion of quake. In my opinion she should have some sort of demonic/vampiress look to be in line in a world filled with the most horrible creatures, and where the few humans in the game are possessed/zombiefied soldiers with blood on their uniforms and disfigured faces.

            I replaced many sounds with epiquake or mindgrid sounds that I don't normally use for anything else. I think it works great. Like:

            -blidle3.wav (strange, unfitting blud sound, replaced with epiquake tornoff noise)

            -Impaler impact noises and ax-hit-juggernaut noise (replaced with mindgrid ax-hit-material noises at various pitches for variation)

            -Impaler fire/loading noises (replaces with sgun2 from epiquake, and the loading sound from the grenade launcher)

            -Walk/waterwalk (replaced with SMC noises)

            -Axe flesh/hit metal noises (replaced with epiquake gore noises)

            The list goes on.

            I did a bit of sound editing for these too, but for the most part, the HORRIBLE noises are gone and over with. The soundtrack is one of the best parts of AoP though.


            As for the maps, yeah well, that's true. The level design was good though, even for Carnage Castle, which was by far the most rushed-looking map. You can always add a map if you want and edit the .ent file/textures to fit it into AoP. I did this to Cryogenic Crypt.bsp (that mod is still floating around here) when I wanted to boost my Hipnotic maps a bit. It worked great. Or you can edit a level that already exists to make it harder like I did for the Last Bastion in Rogue a long time ago.

            The ammo floating in the air is just a map placement issue. EASY to fix through .ent files (>5 mins time)

            Legond is a bit of an anomaly...

            I like the model. It's well designed for a low-poly female. You have a point, though. I think that it deserves a high poly remake however if you're looking for the amount of detail you describe. I definitely don't have the expertise to model something that hard. Maybe someone with the knowledge can pitch in?

            The force field is retarded IMO, yeah, lol.


            As an official mission pack release with only a few flaws, I think it deserves some attention, considering everything else has been pretty much done to death.

              Oh crap. I just realized that I made this skin in 1024*2048. I probably should have made it in 2048*4096 considering that Blud is a big bastard. Oh well, too late, lol. :L

                I'll send you via PM very soon the new version of Rtlights for Aop, fixed some lights, not great changes. I think it's the final version now. I don't want to release it to the public immediately, I would like to have a 100% complete version, so people don't have to replay over and over again to see the changes. Can you send me via PM the sounds you replaced? I've also made a skin replacemente for thunderbolt enforcer, a simple recolor but at least now you can distinguish between standard and thunderbolt (different from other enforcers since red, blue, green and yellow are used in zerstorer and quoth and i wanted something different)

                  sadly never really played AoP much myself,
                  but that monster looks pretty awesome!

                  you did a great job on the skin, it looks freaky as hell


                  no clue how the monster originally looks cuz of never playing AoP much,
                  but your HD skin looks awesome! it makes me wanna play AoP
                  .

                      Hey guys, I'll try to get back to requests as soon as possible today! Especially for you, Blood! The skin will be posted for download tomorrow night, so get ready! After that, most probably I will begin work on the Juggernauts, as there are 2 types of them. More news coming back in this post.

                      Also the grenling would seem easy to do in theory, but the skin is just so all over the place that you can't really tell which parts go where. The same is sorta true for the dark knights, although they should be less of a problem if I ever get to them.

                        If you succeed then it's a dream that comes true. Texture pack almost ready, RTlights are maybe the final version, texture script is fixed and complete (I've played vanilla AoP in glquake to see some texture replacements) Thunderbolt enforcer is ready. We'll bring Abyss of Pandemonium to 21th century!

                        PS: Can't wait to test the Blud in game, it looks fantastic!

                          Also man, I've done some extra sound editing since you've got me started haha. I've gotten a lot of shitty sounds done. Impaler is done and awesome thanks to epiquake, mindgrid, and some created new sounds. Field generator is OK, needs work, but a good placeholder. Laser cannon is quite nice. Used my SOA laser noise for it. LG prototype is decent. It will get the job done, but I want to make a nicer sound for it. I want the sounds to be 100% original and Quake dedicated: whether it's mindgrid, epiquake, or my own sounds. But no 3rd party stuff.

                            I was thinking about quake2 tank/tank kommander sounds for juggernaughts. Sent you a PM with updated files and some info.
