      @Chris - thank you! I wish I thought it looked fantastic. It's missing that certain je ne sais quoi that the mapping kings around here seem to capture in all of their maps. It's probably the best I have ever done though, so....

      However, your compliment gives me extra drive and this is really hard so, it is definitely appreciated.

      edit: I just learned that Je ne sais quoi literally means "I don't know what" lol... wow. That's not what I thought it literally meant, but I used it properly cause, I don't know what the mapping kings capture. They do it well though.

        your modern take on it is a very nice reimagining, when you determine it is 100% complete, making a demo fly-through video of it sounds like something that could be done for a presentation. (not a play through, think Unreal gold fly-through intro).

        Honestly, anyone who would take you on as a mapper on their project would be getting an Ace up the sleeve based on what I've seen so far.

          OMG! It's time for sleep. I just spent like 30 seconds trying to use radiant controls on a fucking picture and getting pissed that the shit was froze! LMMFAO!!!

          I was clicking all kinds of shit screaming "what the fuck, happened now! CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!" lmmfaiyfgwjhdsgajhg

          oh man I needed that laugh. It wasn't hilarious til after I realized that I'm stupid.

              Something that makes sense, like a button. I can live with shooting doors and secret panels but, shooting a tv? Actually, maybe I can't live with shooting things to open/activate them, except for buttons that are out of reach with crosshairs on them. Time to rethink the first room a hair.

                    I'm taking this in a slightly new direction. I have ideas and I feel like continuing to remake e1m1 is stifling my creativity. Don't misunderstand, what I currently have is not going anywhere. After looking at the second building for e1m1, I hate e1m1. For me to try and remake that will kill my desire to finish this map. It's just ugly and I would have to change it so much to un-ugly it that I might as well completely go my own way. I believe I have better ideas than what a remake locks me into.

                      Well that doesn't sound like a bad thing. i personally think remaking it to resemble the original map is boring; its been done a few times (red e1m1 comes to mind). I think if you go into left field (pardon the expression) your map will be all the better because of it.

                        @sylux - yeah, I agree. I may still use the most basic box layout of e1m1 (or maybe a different e & m), just so I don't have to think too hard about how rooms should connect but, beyond that, I intend to go fairly original. That was really the whole point of this exercise, anyway. It's not a matter of whether I have the skills to make pretty brushwork. My Achilles Heel is laying it out into a playable map. I thought by remaking a map I would overcome this but, really, I just need to remake the most basic layout.
