  • Quake MP: SoA - Prox Launcher

    Webangel recently posted a pack with high-res/high poly weapons that were exclusive to the 2 official expansions.
    HERE
    Sadly they were just reskinned and than renamed to match. Not taking into consideration that some of them were meant to look VERY different. Most of the skins worked great - EXCEPT the Prox Launcher. So I felt it needed to be re-done and reskinned

    This is just to v_model, still need to remodel areas of the g_model and then animate the V_model still.

      Hello ooppee,

      its good to see someone with moddeling experience has the ambition to create
      fantastic new weapons for the mission packs.

      There are plenty of weapons available for standard Quake weapons,
      but almost none for MP1 + 2.
      Thats something I never understood....

      Webangel made an amazing start !
      His reskinned standard weapons look really good already.

      Creating for those who deserves it, new models is simply the consequent next step.

      The Laser Gun is still untouched as well.
      I had an idea to use Ruohis extravagant LG weapon for it (it fits quite good):

      (it looks great, when the 4 small pins in the middle move and turn while shooting)

      But ooppe will create for sure in no time a complete new model for it.

      So use your magic powder wisely my friend
      We are all looking forward to what you will come up with next.
      It will definitely enrich our old jewel "Quake".

        G_Model is now done.
        Next is animations - then the "extra" textures (normal mapping and any others needed)

          EDIT: OLD - see next post for current version



          Basically done
          Animated and working fully in game with normals, gloss maps too.

          Will release after I make a matching Grenade for it.

          Also as a side note: Is anyone else having a issue with the Grenade falling through the floor in DarkPlaces?

            Well played the orig some more and mine differed alot too. So did some more tweaking and now it's VERY close to the orig in style.
            Worked on the normal maps quite a bit. Screens show this - that's a flat surface.

              Hello ooppee,

              looking at you last screenshot (where you compared orig with yours) gives me 2 questions:
              - Dont you like the red color ? Why you make it purple if you want to have the look as close to orig as possible ?
              - below the black border line you have the color as well. Orig model has metall color below the black border line.

              Other than that really nice !

                It has the metal behind the black. That red parts after it is the "rounded off" taper. I didnt want to have it just end, so I gave it the effect of it having a rounded edge ending it.

                I did the more "purple" because of the saturation of red. Quake is gritty - I will make the skin more red but not as bright of red as the orig.

                  Seven & ooppee (and a few others) i like your works very much. Why you do not team up and make some work together? I think you have great skills and together your work would be even more effective.

                  I like most of your stuff but it's annoying to put all the little changes together and then even compare the versions you both made. I do not criticize but i think you should team up and build even more great stuff for the Q1 community.

                  Please don't get me wrong.

                      @ ooppee,

                      sorry, it must have been the small laptop, which I use during my lunch break at work.
                      Your screenshot looks now much more red (viewed on my TFT).

                      This is exactly how I would love it to be released.



                      @ grave_digga,

                      ooppee does very different things than I do.
                      He is much more talented in almost everything.
                      The only thing we did almost simultaneously is the lava nail:
                      his and mine (which is just a reworked version from webangel)
                      All other things are different.

                      And be sure, that ooppee and I PM a LOT
                      But he is a uncontrollable beast, which spits out new amazing
                      Quake enrichments like the supernailgun spits out nails

                          Made a alt-skin for those who may want a more true to original look with the highly red.



                          @LockNLoad - yes I will be. The weapon itself *is* done. However will not be releasing until I do the grenade also. Have a few ideas on it. I am not a fan of the original design overall. So it will be tweaked. It will still be a circle and all and will keep it very close to the original - however modified.

                          @grave_digga - in some ways Seven and I have been working together. If you've noticed in some of the shots he's posted in other posts of his - he has a copy of the Enforcer that will never be released. Aside from me, a friend and him - no one else has it. When I am working on a project he gets all the "beta's". Give them to him, let him test it out, gives feedback, I adjust. In alot of ways though him and I are a indirect team. He is improving Quake in the "Effects" - his modified effectinfo.txt, the lava, teleporter, water ect. I haven't touched any of those as his don't need any improvement (although I would LOVE his Teleporter with the effects it has AND another "layer" of the stars above it).

                            The bomb, currently as you can see - uses the originals texture which is VERY low res. The model itself is very simple, basically just a sphere with the middle cut out of it and replaced with a cylinder (12 stacks) and just scaling the middle stacks to give it the rounded look. Seeing as the model is small AND that you won't be able to get really close up to it (as it will blow up in your face) - a high poly and high detail mesh is unneeded. This was 5 minutes in Milkshape 3D lol - most of which was wrapping the old skin onto the model to see if it looked close enough to the original design.

                              from what i understand this prox launcher is a modified Rouhis grenade launcher model.

                              I like what you've done with this model ooppee.

                              please dont get me wrong...it looks good.

                              the only thing i see thats a little off, is the red part looks twice as long as the original...you could edit that part of the texture to make it dark grey.

                              have you also done a v_multi with this model.
