  • QRP: what is the difference between v1.0 texture packs?

    Hello!

QRP released v1.00 of their texture packs... I see 2 files:

    Map textures v.1.00 367 MB
    and Normal map tex. add-on v.1.00 341MB

I looked in the readme.txt and they both share the same text ...
I am using Darkplaces, do I need both packs? is the add-on for the 2 mission packs? I am confused the last QRP I used was from 2007

any help for this would be appreciated, thanks!!!

    Hello keropi,

    Welcome to quakeone.

The "Map textures v.1.00 367 MB" will give you High Resolution Textures for your Quake.

You do NOT need the "Normal map tex. add-on v.1.00 341MB" unless you want to have Parallax/Offsetmapping visual.
I made a comparism what Parallax/Offsetmapping is here

So, if you decide you want to have the Parallax/Offsetmapping feature, you have to use both packs.
There are only a few small thing left to do to activate the offsetmapping feature:
    - Use THIS DP build (just to be sure to avoid other issues preventive)
    - Start DP and type into the console: r_glsl_offsetmapping 1

You will find many other beautiful DP enhancements while browsing through mainly these subforums:
    - Finished Works
    - Quake Clients

    Have fun,
    Seven

PS: QRP team created a thread for especially these texture packs: HERE
Any further question regarding these packs should be asked there.

Q and the rest ID games until Quake2 (ok ok DN3D/Blood/SW too) are real FPS, not the BS we get nowdays.... how I miss the times we where playing in 320X200 resolution in software mode....

edit: wow, parallax looks like tesselation for Q1...! impressive!
