    The Fresnel thing is what probably makes the shader consume more CPU power. Anyway, I will rather stick to Seven's dp_water approach than the dp_reflect one. It just looks too much like mercury. For the teleporter, this is great, but the water loses its transparency. I also found that at least in some versions you guys released, blood and shotgun shots leave trails on top of the water surfaces as if it were solid ground. That's not what it should be like.

      Hello,

      Just to point this out again.
      The original "DP pretty water" shader + textures have been created by Urre and Zombie.
      They ended its development with Version 0.2 many years ago.

      All I did was modify the existing shader values + textures a bit.
      All modifications / changes are explained in detail in my included readme of course.


      Feel free to modify it further.
      I can only encourage people to do it.
      Adjust it to your personal liking. It is fun to work with it.
      And many things are described in the dpwiki and in the forum to help you.

        Nah, not really. It's just a few instructions on GPU, even vanilla phong or blinn are more expensive.

          i think i found a way to use dp_reflect with transparency.

          only problem ive detected so far is with certain fog colors seem to bright in the water.

            This latest work looks much better to my eyes Sean. I'm pretty easy as I like to have multiple versions of Quake and mods, but this looks less "metallic"? and more like water. The softer effect is easier on the eyes and looks more natural.

                The only disadvantage of this shader is that the reflection will not change depending on the viewing angle like it does with dp_water. It will save FPS this way probably, but it will come at a price...

                  Sean, which DP build do you use? I'm trying your new water effect, but I have no transparency neither in 2011-02-03 nor in 2011-07-02 builds.

                    Hi


                    I'm using the 32bit oct22 build right now.


                    just to make sure i did a new id1 folder with just pak0 and pak1


                    then added my water pk3...run the game...water is looking


                    like dpwater but my fps were so low.


                    I was thinking i need vised maps...so added those still real bad fps.


                    lastely remembered i need the rtlight and lit files...fps shot back up.


                    perhaps you have another water pack or script you need to remove.

                            i saw seven using the green on names so i just use it because i think it looks nice.

                              Water is looking great Sean.

                              Can't wait to add it to my Sean's Quake folder with your monster skins etc.

                              I'm gonna need a damn big hard drive just for all the versions of Quake I have now! This place has become an addiction for me!! AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!
