    I recently saw the news about trenchbroom and it reminded me that Quake existed. I always wanted to mod quake back when it came out, so I decided to have a go at it now that I've learned to code in the last couple of years.

    So here's a really simple first mod.

    Download Headpop Mod



    Features:

    When you kill a soldier occasionally their head will pop off!

    Some edits to blood particles for Darkplaces if you happen to be using it, blood splatter everywhere!

    It's a simple model edit and very small amount of code. I thought I might go on and try to make something a bit similar to brutal Doom. Anybody interested in something like that?

                I'm sure there will be quite the audience for this.

                Be sure to include floating gibs and kickable heads.

                  gb is normaly a kind and helpful guy.
                  Who likes to give some taunts / gibes here and there when necessary


                  I just tested your mod. I had a similar idea with an alternative zombie, which can be killed by cutting his head with the axe.
                  It is good and refreshing to have you here capnbubs. I like your ideas.
                  Just be careful when using engine specific code. This leads quickly to a path which you do not really want to go...

                    Thanks for the advice, I'm being careful to avoid it but I noticed there are ways you can support engines like darkplaces by adjusting effects without breaking compatibility with other engines. I would definately like to overhaul the explosion effects in particular but I can't see a good way to do it without picking a specific engine to design them for.

                      Pick an engine. The road seven is referring to is exactly the road you want to be on, Find an engine, learn all about it and mod til your heart is content.
