  • E1M1 remake

Just been playing around with trenchbroom. I'm remaking the slipgate complex as the start of this mod i'm working on.

    How do you like it?

This is literally all I've done so far, working on a couple of new textures for the out door area before I build it.

      sweet!

I love mapping for quake with trenchbroom, it makes altering brush shapes so quick and easy!

Also coloured lighting is da bomb.

Looks good bubs... I thought you'd be playing with gl_texturemode 2 though judging from your comments about classic quake models.

I hope you haven't given up on that btw! Also, this is the most remade map of all-time surely? Quoth had a really good remake!

          (also, sorry for the spam)

It's very N64 style Quake, I like it.

Hah yea, I alternate depending on my mood. Don't worry I'm working on the ogre as we speak.

I'll have to check out the other remakes!

CapnBubs, how did you get trenchbroom to open the quake 1 map sources from John Romero? When I did it they open up a blank map. Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I pointed the program to my quake directory too.
Edit: maps were set to read only, changed the properties. Why did Romero do that?

You work incredibly fast and produce solid material (my opinion). You are either a ringer or a natural - either way, kudos, man. There is no way to work this fast if you don't have some serious focus and clarity. You must see things in your head and know the exact steps to bring that thing to creation....I envy you if that is the case.

Oh, looks nice so far. You are like, the Quake modder that came out of nowhere and took us by surprise with your excellent work.

Though, in regards to earlier I was secretly hoping someone had figured out how to edit the quake 1 original map sources in trenchbroom haha.

Edit: Figured it out. Romero set the quake 1 map sources to read only, changed it to read/write.

If I have a clear vision of something then sure I can make it really fast. Unfortunately it works both ways, if I can't imagine it clearly I might never get it done, I have a lot of unfinished projects where I have hit a wall and I just can't picture how to finish them.

I don't have that problem (luckily) cause all of my projects are based on no vision what-so-ever. I take simple ideas and keep piling them on top of each other until the monster is complete.

aside: When you hit a wall, it's either because, you didn't build a door or you aren't meant to leave the confines of the "room".

Or you simply can't see where you are going!

(or you just aren't paying attention to where you are walking)
