    Seven shared this with me today after i asked him how it could be done i guess with almost everything else with quake it has been done before

    this was done by OoPpEe in 2011

    it is so simple to add even a stoner can do so you may want to try it too!

    That's cool but way too small for my taste. You should make a custom crosshair pack.

      its not even a qc add. all you do is drop the tga in the gfx folder and add a few lines to your config and bam its done. it was too small for me to and it the config settings you can make it bigger and i did right off start. i do need to understand tga files better and how to make them alpha so ill make a new one with a penitential cross hair or something like that.

        crosshair... whuzat!?

        its neat that you can make anything a crosshair in DP but i stopped using crosshairs in games a few years ago.
        imo they just reminds you all the time you are playing a game and makes the game feel less immersive cuz of that. if you are using a sniper, of course then it makes sense, but while holding any other weapon i think it feels silly to have a crosshair in the center of your screen.
        not using a crosshair also helps a great deal improving your aim, cuz you have to learn to aim by sight, and not rely on a crosshair to tell you where you are aiming

        again, its neat that its possible in DP you change your crosshair to any pic you want, but i personally dun use crosshair, i personally feel they make you feel less like you are really emerged in the world of the game cuz you get reminded all the time you are playing a game by the crosshair right there in center of your screen


        also, if you need help with making a TGA with transparency, try this site
        Convert image to TGA
        you give it a png or any other kinda file which has transparency, and it spits out a TGA with transparency for you
        i use it all the time if i need tga with transparency, cuz paintshop pro which i use doesnt support TGA with transparency, so i always save files as PNG instead and then use that site to convert them to TGA and get to keep the transparency

          i use cross hairs all the time. it helps with the way i play (wii mote) but i agree that it sucks that thay are stuck in the midle of the screen but i know that can be changed cose in quake wii the crosshair moves around it works like a uptodate fps like COD. so i hope to change that also at some point. what i am finding is that im stuck in a color pallet with it it would not see the quake logo png with all the color it seems to just read it as black...
          also it looks like it will read any pic file that dp likes (tga png)
          i should have a crosshair replacement pack soon and talisa i would like you to test drive it in your quake. to check that its compatible with all the other goodies.
          (i wish my part would show up in the mail so i could fix my other computer so i could have my hafe hd quake back!)

              You should make a couple joke crosshairs...like you know how painters are portrayed holding out their thumb with one eye closed to measure angles in their painting? Maybe you could have a thumb 'crosshair', or maybe some emoticons or something.

              Actually you could probably come up with a super pack if you found some freeware custom cursors. Just dump the kitchen sink in there, even if it doesn't make sense. I mean, what if the crosshair was a banana? Who cares, right? I have never seen a "pack" that was filled top to bottom with things I want, that's what makes it a pack, options for everyone.

                  so far the pack has all 7 crosshairs replaced and a few extras im putting the finishing touches on it should be good to go for everyone in a few days. and yea there is a goofie one in there that is not part of the 7 in the options in darkplaces. most of them were made with fonts the same way i use to make sticker back in the day

                          Hello JDSTONER,

                          Interesting crosshairs that you are using.
                          Also interesting, that you created the thread in "Chat-O-Rama" subforum.

                          Regarding the size of a crosshair:
                          1.) As you know, size doesnt matter (didnt your wife tell you this)
                          2.) A big sized crosshair will get boring quickly and it even disturbs your view.
                          3.) You do not really "need" a crosshair for aiming. It simply helps sometimes and looks cool

                          Make use of "crosshair_size" cvar, and everybody should be pleased.

                          By the way, you can make a quick google-search for "crosshair", and everyone you find can be used in replacement engines.

                            thanks for teaching me how to do this mod seven i was lost i was looking all over the qc for some type of hex coad that made the crosshair i was way off it was way easier then that!

                            originally i posted this in the chat cose i was just sharing what you shared with me untell MG told me i had to do my own as homework. none of the artwork in the crosshairs i made is my own it was just google searches and changing fonts to pics

                            the size is too big if you are playing quake on a computer screen a foot away but i prefer to play on the tv across the room that the regular size was too small for me to see. i also like to use the alpha option on the filled in crosshairs so you can see throw them.

                            i would like some one to one up me and see if they could make a animated one!

                            as for #1 size dose matter thats how someone elces girlfriend became my wife LOL

                              animated crosshair? should totally be doable, if DP allows shaders for textures on hud you can use an animMap to make a crosshair be animated, same way like [email protected] made that animated textures add-on for quake using shaders which add animMaps to the textures
