ATI and quake don't get along.

Or rather, ATI doesn't give a shit about support for opengl.

My ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128mb video card kicks the CRAP out of quake, evey excutable I've thrown at it will run, even Tenebrae

I'm not an ATI fanboy and I don't bash Nvidia, my last card was a Nvidia Geforce 5200 FX and the card before that was a Gforce GTS 32mb, But for the "price/performance" type of person I'd recommend the ATI 9800Pro128/256mb for a decent card for no to much money.

The f0qer: that's a pretty decent card but I just don't really think ati's suitable for a lot of things

From my experience with ATI cards, they just don't work out that well for me. Especially with opengl stuff. Linux was also a HUGE problem with the ATI drivers being so crappy.

Why reccomend such an old card? you can at LEAST reccomend the X*** series. I Really don't see the 9800 cutting it for new games much longer.

Overall I really reccomend you go with that x1300 because it's my belief that you can only be satisfied with what you want. And you want an ATI. So my suggestion is not to get an older card just because they're slightly cheaper. Just go with what your heart desires. In the end you should happy. Unless you use linux. Then I say you HAVE to get an nvidia.

I shit on Linux. Ive been a windows user all my life, and to my understanding, games hate Linux. And im sure theres at least 1 exe that will run Quake with an ATI. I can use winquake if I need to ;D

                            Clicky

That's what I've used for a while now. Fantastic card, great frame rates. I'll be satisfied with this until I upgrade.

I could never get into ATI. Nothing against them, I just have a philosophy I go by: If it's not broke, don't fix it. Nvidia has served me well.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.
