  • Quake 1 and twitch.tv

Alrighty, I'm going to be working with a studio in a year or two on producing high quality streams and casts of various games. League of Legends, Quake live, DOTA2, ect.

I've just had a thought, how many people here would actively watch a stream JUST dedicated to Quake 1?

Maybe there's be a few weekly multiplayer sessions, some playthroughs of single player mods.

Could be a good way to showcase various mods and get people interested in the game.

I don't think the studio would really care for Quake, but it does make me wonder. Would this be a viable stream. (I'd say using twitch.tv because then it means if there's a high subscriber count small tournaments can be hosted with decent cash prizes at a low buy in cost.)

This was just a completely random thought and shouldn't be taken far too seriously, but I do wonder if people here would enjoy something like that. I'm not saying I'm even the right person for this. But you don't really get quake 1 streamers. So it could be interesting.

If I understand "stream" means watching a video/movie while downloading... well I'd watch Quake 1 streaming if it was "live" and also I'd like it to be available in a format for iPhone.

You've hit the nail on the head

That's exactly what it is. Think of a youtube video in real time. So it's happening right there and then (obvious latency issues, but that's minor).

twitch.tv allows you to record streams too, so people can view them later.

If the site needed a shoutcaster for any quake 1 events I'd happily do my best to help run and promote it.

This is PERFECT for competitions and events as people can enjoy them on the spot as they're happening (and this allows them to follow their favourite players) and people can archive events quite nicely.

I'm actually a league of legends player so this guy is a personal favourite. I'm linking this just so you can take a look at the site and see if it would work on a phone.

An app that might be useful.

Nice idea, but who would you want to see in that stream? Like, who should the lead host/hosts be?

We can't just have a flat boring factual host, got to have somebody who's a bit of a troll and just generally a pretty fun person. Somebody who makes the viewers feel they can relate to and enjoy.

In regards to that second point. I'll not say anything purely because I know I'll get repercussions from saying too much and then I'll annoy people.

For the stream well it's not easy to answer your questions but I'd personaly stream quake.shmack.net:26000 since it's one of the most busy these days.

              ((((Promotional Informations))))

Twitch.TV and Quakeone.com coming together to bring you only the freshest oldschool classic first person shooter experience, in the only game that could deliver both 'oldschool' and 'classic' without breaking a sweat, Quake1 the original 1996 shooter!

This is where it all started folks, if you ever wondered what got the whole e-Sports revolution going, or the catalyst that caused the every day video gamer to transform into a paid professional gamer, you can't get any more intense than this. While yuo won't be seeing hugely famous and popular Quakers from its hey days, but what you WILL be seeing? Modern Quake1 gamers who would probably kick the snot out of the more famous Quakers from the past (You can quote MindfieldzX on that one,@ the bank!).

              Move over Reptile
              Move over Unholy
              Move over Fatality

All your gibs are now belong to us.

              (((End)))

You need to fill the server before we can fill the viewer slots.
I have zero concerns about filling the server with players, in any mod. A schedule would be nice for daily mod coverage, that way it isn't CAx/TDM/CTF/RQ/RA 24/7 (yawn)

ps : I re-read what I wrote, and realized that about 75% of what I wrote would need some intense sentence restructuring and most definitely some adjustments in the word play.

I wrote a long response as to how I thought the structure could be in order to get new players.

                Then I fell asleep xD

But you are correct, although I'm working on getting people to try quake.

I'd be willing to dust off my RL and show up for a live "televised" hostage situation... Remember the tourney where I wanted in and ya'll treated me like I had a red nose? Then in the after match I slaughtered everyone including the tourney winner? Yeah, fvck your tourney n!gga!!!...

                  but anyway...

Live streaming Quake 1 sounds very interesting and if it were something like CA/RA I'd think it was even more interesting... Sorry but as a true old school Quaker I don't find RuneQuake interesting to watch... It's really nothing but people claiming to have skill... "It's skill when I place deathtraps on teleporter exits and camp with quad-haste-regen-invis-sticky runes. I need them to survive!" If you can't kill me without all those runes jammed up your ass you're not going to kill me with just a RL.

                    F**k RuneQuake

                    that is all

(I seriously cannot stand it, it bores me more than instagib UT99 servers.)

But I'm getting the general idea that people would be interested, so now to see how to pull it off. It won't be for a while, but that's because I can't afford to do this right now. Though I do plan for it to happen asap.

Oh, and I wouldn't know about this tourney since I'm still pretty new here. :v

RuneQuake owns. Only ****ies use trap runes. I asked Slot to make disabling trap runes possible via voting since we have asshats who love disabling rune dropping so they can get the same rune over and over but I haven't gotten a response from him yet.

ok i have not read thru all the posts, but I frequent TwitchTv to see games before i go buy.. or just to sit back and watch some gaming culture.
I think this is a cool idea; watching either live tv stream while playing or watching old demos.
I have a lot of old demos (had more from 97-01 but lost the hd).

To me this is cool cause I can watch a Match demo on my phone

Well alrighty then, I shall have to find the funding/means to do this. c:

But if people could just put down what kind of things they'd like to stream, because even though I'm not a fan of runequake, I know people are, so nobody should really be denied what they enjoyed over something so simple as a couple of people's preference.

Anyway, I'm going off for a few days, home related issue and my mother's in a really bad state right now. So when I'm back and try and get something going, maybe a bunch of mock up games over skype with people to see how the format would be.

Also, if anybody wants to PM me instead, go for it.

And what about a "multichannel" choice... like watch "live" what is going on... rune/ca/dm etc. ???

                            More choices would be perfect!!

That would be good, but that's up to the people streaming, I have a load of quake related ideas so I'm going to draw a bunch of things up and see where I can take them, MadGypsy has indirectly motivated me to do something anyway which helps.
