  • Flash Decisions

    Bought a PSVita
Bought a 64bit touchscreen laptop with respectable specs

I consider them business investments (note the title bar)

Looked at some C# docs, decided it was basically the same shit as AS3 with hardly any variation.

My flash decision was to decide that Adobe Flash was a bad decision BUT the carry-over knowledge is priceless.

    See you in 6 months.

Nah, I don't have any intention of doing that. My first project will be to make a Fruity Loops-esque app for the Vita. I'm realistic, my talent isn't in game/engine development, it's in UI development. Plus, even the word "porting" bores the hell out of me. I want to write fresh code based on ideas and solutions that I invent, not just "parse" something from one language to another.

The cool thing is I finally convinced my Father to let me teach him how to program and to join me on the project. His problem (thus far) is he is trying to learn straight up C with internet tutorials but he didn't bother to start with an education in basic programming so, he can't seem to connect the dots.

Using the PSM SDK we at least start with a common ground and clear direction. Instead of him fumbling around trying to figure everything out from the middle, he will be set on a path that starts at the beginning. My Father is a genius, I know he can learn this stuff. He just needs hands on interaction with someone that already knows what they are doing. Once I get him on the same page as myself, it's gonna get raw. He is retired and has 7 days a week * as many hours as he wants to work to devote himself to this.

I could see our team-up being very productive. If it turns out that he really just has some programmers mental block that leads to this really not being for him, I'll simply dump him and continue solo. With all love and respect of course, but I'm looking for a future in something new, not a bunch of dead weight holding me back. I'm also on fire.

            Finally!

@MagikGypsy - long time ago and they don't let you ever change it. I could have signed up for a new account but then I would have more email accounts to keep track of.

BTW - The developer license is free right now and they are slow as f**k for approving them (8 days for me)

            ----

Anybody want a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV for PC? My system specs are not compatible. I'll give it to you for free (via slow cheap mail). I only paid 9.99 for it. It's brand new. I took the cellophane off myself about an hour ago.

            ------

            @MadGypsy Sr. lol?

lol. I already dumped him . He came over yesterday and I gave him my old netbook. We were learning the SDK together, I turned around and he's fucking with the netbook. I said "Dad"..."Yeah?"..."You're fired."..."Fired?"..."I love you but, your head is too far up your ass to help me. Sorry."

I'm not sweating it. A father son team up would have been nice and all but, I am light years ahead of my father in a programming sense. I would have taught him everything I know, but I can't justify spending the time on someone who is so easily distracted. I'm not fucking around, I'm going to be a Play Station mobile app developer for a living, PERIOD. It could have been Jesus and I would have fired him too.

            "God."...."Yeseth?"..."Thou art fired."

            For real.

A little update for anyone that cares

              1) I have finally decided that my first app will simply be a virtual drum kit. There will be a few little extras with it but mostly it will just be a touch screen drum kit, plain and simple. I intend to model the kit in 3d though. Maybe some kinda quarter view from the top type of perspective. If you looked straight down on a kit and then moved back and down enough to be able to see the pedals...that's the view I'm going for.

2)C# is a nothing. I thought I would have to do a lot of brain rearranging to really grasp the language, I don't. There is a very slight syntactical difference from AS3 and for the most part it's class structure is identical. There are a couple of things I had to look up like enum{} (which I already got meant enumerable/enumeration/whatever) but I was a little confused on it's implementation. The real work is in learning the libraries. That's "start over" kind of stuff cause of course that part is absolutely nothing like AS3. In my classic MO though, fuck reading a book, I go straight to the docs and rely on the fact that I am good at figuring things out. I found out that everything in C# is an Object and that makes my life a lot easier cause I understand the hell out of some objects, I've only been parsing and inventing them from parses forever.

Anyway, that's my little update on where I am and what I am doing.

              Virtual Drumkit
              C# ain't shit
              learning libraries

My next project will make me a fortune though. As it turns out there is no PDF reader for the Vita and as it also turns out, a lot of people really want one and claim they would be happy to pay for one. I want to get more familiar with the supplied libraries before I begin making such a thing. I made a low-ball PDF reader in flash a long time ago. I'm thinking a lot of that could be ported.

I think that's some serious ball dropping on Sony's part to not include the most obvious thing ever in their device. My hacked PSP could read PDF's. What was that like 5 years ago? You would think some things in this world would just be automatic. A portable device that doesn't support Portable Document Format? LOL, thanks Sony, I'll make the bread..lol idiots!

Well I had to make a new flash decision.

PSM SDK is unstable and through using it I realized that it isn't my cup of tea... Too annoying and documented poorly. So I bought an android tablet. The point here being that I am going to develop specifically for mobile devices one way or another. There is a serious upside though. I can develop using AS3. Essentially putting me right back in flash but, not really.

That's a serious leap forward from where I was with the PSM SDK cause all I have to do is go back to what I've always been doing/using and export my projects differently.

                Android it is.

Lol, so many flip flops just to find my monetary place in the world of programming. I don't see there being another flip flop though. I already know the language and SDK inside out and upside down with the small exception of exporting to android. I don't see that being anything.
