  • Happy Canada Day

    Vive le Canada!

Seriously, Canada has a few flaws... 1. Very high taxes; 2. Very bad weather (sometimes); 3. Canadian Defense/National Security is decent or average.

But in general, Canada is a wonderful country. Canada has many natural resources. Many people love Canadian beer; Canadian food is great. Canada has helped many countries (and Canada continues to do so). Canadians are nice (but don't mess with us.) Needless to say, hockey is a great sport. [One should not take this thread very seriously, but Canadian pride keeps on running at a fast pace!]

I think it looks super yummy. Seasoned fries, real cheese curds and thick/creamy brown gravy. Breakfast of champions. However, my metabolism is super high and my body weight is super low...so in theory I can eat just about anything. My body hates some "foods" but poutine fries isn't one of them.

Well if you ever get to NOLA, stop by Tracey's and I'll make you the 'Murican version. I can't find a picture that is close enough so, just imagine crispy on the outside soft on the inside fries topped with shredded mixed cheese that is broiled to the point of being slightly toasted and then covered (but not drowned) in roast beef gravy. That's what you'll get if I make them anyway. I can't promise that anyone else at Tracey's even knows how to boil water.

Would you eat a cheesy baked potato?.. or gravy and rice? Rice and potatoes are primarily just starch so, what goes on one should work equally well on the other. You can also consider that I make 50 to 100 of these a day. Surely if it was nasty it wouldn't be the most ordered side item on the menu. Think "chili cheese nachos" but it's "gravy cheese fries" or "meat sauce, cheese, starch".

However, if you really came to Traceys I wouldn't make you gravy cheese fries (maybe a real small side just to test). I would make you (apparently) The best roast beef poboy in the entire city with a side of fried boudin balls.

@best roast beef - customers walk in saying that they heard we have the best roast beef ever and they leave telling us it is the best roast beef ever. Why is it the best? I have no idea cause, the recipe is nothing special. There's a whopping 6 ingredients in the gravy and none of them are secret or beef related. Past that all we do is boil beef. Technically it's not even roast beef but people swear by it.

Im assuming you work there. Nice. My nephew was just out there a few weeks back down in the lower ward cleaning up as a church group. He said he seen this place not to far from the stadium if im not mistaken the name he said was Traceys.

The lower 9th ward is about 9 miles from where I work. Traceys sits in the heart of the lower garden district (Irish Channel). The nearest stadium is the Super Dome - about 5 miles away. Actually, I'm pretty sure the Super Dome is the only stadium we have. I don't think you can consider Zephyr field or The Fair Grounds a stadium, even if you could those are like 5 times the distance from Traceys that the Super Dome is. Thge Super Dome sits on the edge of the French Quarter and the Lower 9th sits on the opposite end of the French Quarter just past the Marigny/Bywater. They are separated by roughly 4 or 5 miles.

The Lower 9th ward is also a pretty bad place to be. It's gotten better over the years but that doesn't make it good. I wouldn't want to be walking around in the Lower 9th doing anything, church related or not.

That doesn't mean your nephew didn't see a place named Tracy's or Tracie's though. This city is jam packed with bars from one end to the other. For us to have another bar with a similar name is not unlikely. You can't even get a liquor license in this city anymore unless you buy an existing one or refresh one that currently exists for a location. There has been a slew of new bars but they are always established in a spot where a bar already existed. You will not be turning "Jim's (out of business) T-shirt Shop" into a bar.

That actually reminds me of an idea I had. Buy a place and stock it up with furniture or something and then call it "Going Out Of Business Sale" but, (hopefully) never go out of business. There are laws here regarding the signage that you can use. Big "going out of business" signs are prohibited (in historic New Orleans), but if you named the place "Going Out of Business Sale" then you could make that sign really big and potentially get a lot of customers in the door.

One of the rules the garden district walmart had to follow was their store could not look like a Walmart. I have painted houses that I had to get permission from the city to paint and I could only paint them certain colors. The Historical Society is VERY strict here. Maybe they wouldn't even let you name your business "Going Out Of Business Sale"

The 'poutine' is a meal I think exclusive here in Qubec (French Canada).

You should know the picture above is showing you the most 'ordinary' kind of poutine you can find... you probably have 100's of different kind...
