  • Hi there!

Hey there just found this site after I was able to "obtain" quake 1. I would like to play online with quake however I have no idea how to do this So, in the coming days I might be making topics asking question about quake 1 and things about it.

    Thanks, Chozen

Greetz and Salutations. I'm Bank, I'm the local Radio-Host and forum-Bastard. You can download my Radio shows via Quakeone's download section or me. Again, welcome.

Welcome, check out the Guides section and the File Downloads section (and dig around the forum if you need).

Don't be afraid to ask questions, someone will help.

A large number of us here play this game almost every single day.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Ok d00d, you would probally want to talk to me first before playing Quake. I may edit this post several times before it's done, so don't pay attention to it until it says =Final versioN= at the bottom, as I have to go to different webpages to obtain links.
(I'll do the basics, someone else help him out with maps)

          Ok first:
Delete the opengl32.dll file in your quake directory. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST if you're going to play glquake. Unless you're useing an old vpodoo card it won't run glquake.

Ok, if you like to use your mouse to look around but dont want to type
+mlook in console every time you play, you'll need an autoexec.cfg.
          GET AN AUTOEXEC.CFG FILE HERE!!

note*******: if you're already useing the keys mentioned below, it could screw up your controls. If not, I highly reccomend doing the following.
If you want to play runequake, you'll need binds for some basics. Here's my basic setup (and I'm a reletively good player, I don't play like a n00b)
You'll want to bring the console down by pressing the ~ key while in Quake. Then type:
          bind "mouse2" "+hook"
          bind "mouse3" "rune-delete"
          bind "mwheelup" "rune-use"
          bind "mwheeldown" "rune_tell"
in no particular order, but exactly like that. Now you may or may not have a mousewheel, but I am fortuneate enough to, or a mouse3 (for me it's pressing down on the mousewheel, for mouse3). You also may or may not be useing a cliet that supports mousewheel. Im sure scar3crow will reccomend DarkPlaces for you, and it DOES support mousewheel. I also use the wasd setup, so if you use mouse2 to move forward, if you type "bind "mouse2" "+hook"", it will override your walking forward, and you'll only be able to use hook in runequake instead of walking forward, unless you reset your controls.
          *******

Autoexec.cfg files are files placed in the quake/id1 folder (if playing normal Quake) that automatically tells Quake to input special commands (for you, if you like the mouse, +mlook) (or, if running a mod, in the quake/modx folder, where modxx stands for the mod's name).
Autoexec.cfg files are fairly easy to make. You just make a new text file, and type Quake commands (in your case, +mlook) that quake automatically executes. Then after you're done, rename it to autoexec.cfg and put it in your quake/id1 folder (or quake/modx folder, where modx stands for the mod you're playing).
But since you're a newbie, I'll upload an autoexec.cfg with +mlook and only +mlook for you.

Now I'm sure scar3crow will help you with DarkPlaces, and I certianly hope someone else helps you out with the useage of custom maps, mods, (and QuakeWorld)...

Now to answer your question: to connect to a Quake server: simple pull down the console by pressing ~ and type:
          connect fvf.servequake.com
no r in servequake. There are other servers, but this one is one of the best
