  • Help!! Really Bad FPS in doom3!!

Today I decided I wanted to play doom3 for the first time in a while on Veteran skill. But to my dismay, the game was extremely slow and choppy. I did the showFPS command and got only 10-40 fps. I have no idea why this happens, with Darkplaces I get decent FPS (not as good as it used to be). My system specs are AMD Athlon 4800+ , xfx extreme geforce 7950 gx2, 2gb ddr3 RAM, Asus a8n-sli deluxe mobo, windows xp media center.

I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed... Does anyone know what could be causing this kind of bad frames? maybe something in my nvidia control panel? I've tried tons of things, but none of them worked. if anyone has a suggeestion, please post.

    Thanks,
    Monster

Well, the easiest way would be to just reinstall the game.

Have you tried fiddling with the FPS controls INSIDE the game? (IE, interface?)

Yes that is what I have been thinking of doing... I'll re-install the game right now

Change Ultra Quality to High Quality?

Nope... I used to be able to run it with everything maxed out at a constant 60 fps with no problems whatsoever.

Looks like you should turn your settings down. When you get a decent FPS, THEN you can start messing with stuff.

Open your display panel for kicks, see if you have the video acceleration turned all the way up.

I see no reason to set antialiasing higher than x4 :-/

i really thought a 7950gx2 would be able to use 16x antialiasing...
                    (with a decent framerate)

Thats his problem, he doesnt understand that haveing antialaising on at a high setting (8x, 16x, and up) will DESTROY fps. Ansiotropic filtering is the real FPS killer though, I would reccomend 4x AA 4x AF

                      D|---------------2-------2--2-------------
                      A|---------------0------------------------
                      E|----------------------------------------

You apparently paid 2500 bucks for this?

I paid under 1000 for mine and it looks like it basically OWNS yours.
