Is global warming real? Are humans causing it?

Just wondering. I think humans waste a ton of energy and everything needs to be a lot more energy efficient and I like that this is subject raised by global warming but I'm not so sure the global warming issue isn't blown way out of proportion.

/They've done all of this research showing that nuclear power, which generates 20% of the power in the USA is the least expensive source of energy yet no one is building any nuclear power plants except outside the USA. What's with that?

Scared by three mile island and chernobyl? One was on our soil, one was epic, combine that with the fact that they're fairly recent, and you've got a population thats generally not interested.

Poll needs an option for "Exists: Cyclical, accentuated by humans" as I have heard that opinion as well.

Ill vote I dunno because I've seen different opinions from smart people on both sides. People say that all the pollution we cause with our vehicles and factories etc cause CO2 levels to rise in the atmosphere, which trap heat from the sun which in turn cook the planet... and you get people that say that we're simply going through a warm phase in our climate and CO2 levels rise AFTER the heat levels do.

Both are very good points and I can't bring myself to decide which—but I do know our pollution isn't helping either. We are destroying the ozone and nobody cares because it's in Antartica, but what happens when it grows and becomes a problem? World leaders say "ah well that's not in our lifetime", but they don't know what they will be putting thier kids and grandkids through.

As far as I know, the ozone hole was caused CFC that acted as a catalyst to destroy ozone molecules. They placed heavy restrictions on the manufacture of CFCs in the mid 1990s and I think I read that the Ozone hole should be repaired by 2050. That's what I remember.

Yeah, we don't need to pollute so much anyway

Something that to me adds a lot of uncertainty to global warming theories is the fact the biggest greenhouse gas is .....

        WATER VAPOR.

I've done my research. While CFCs are now banned for refrigerators, etc, we're still messing it up. And even if North America cooperates, we still have China, Russia and Europe. Europe has been cooperative but fuck China wants to give everyone an SUV

The earth's climate is changing because the earth is going through a celestial shift, or passing through the solar system's center point of its gravity (rough explanation) but it happens about every 10,000 years, if you look at our history theres also evidence that catastrophes happen almost every 10,000 years. what a coincidence huh?

Humans do help speed up this process but not enough to start getting excited about. This is a natural motion for the earth.

Say what you want but the way people are living and polluting the environment is definitely (yes, DEFINITELY) a very bad thing.

Not sure myself, I think it's funny that everyone's going nuts over Global Warming despite the fact that we're at the beginning of an ICE AGE!

Don't know about that, but if we weren't in an ice age, Mobile, Alabama wouldn't exist, since it would be under water.

everyone should try this experiment: fasten a white sock around the tailpipe of your car, start it up, and just back down the driveway. you'll see a brown stain on the sock. now, just imagine how much more shit you'd be pumping out going 70 mph for your typical commute. then imagine doing it twice a day, every day, for 40 years (average working span), and you have an impression of the impact of a typical american on the environment

I'm for mandating the use of electric cars by 2050; down with the combustible engine! Though, concerns of polluting the environment are less dramatic as Yellowstone erupting which would send us into an ice age for 100 years. Then there's the threat of a meteor colliding with the Earth in the next few hundred years, unless scientists can push it off course with a nuclear blast.

Or maybe we should create an atmosphere around the moon and start over?

All in all, we are doomed from the time we were born. I guess it's best to make the most of it while we can.
