    Nice scare tactics JK!

But yea, the road can be a dangerous place, it really is best to practice driving only when you feel like it so you don't drive nervously or when you are not completly aware of your surrounding area...

After a while driving almost becomes second nature (for me it did) and I can pretty much drive the highway in my sleep, I've done it but thats only because I had to, driving continuiously at night time was part of my job at that time, so it helped me become a defensive driver..

But yea, dont drive till you're ready and until you have your head clear

Yeah it takes a bit of time to learn your surroundings.

Next time you're riding in the car, try paying attention to and learning the streets and where they connect to. Eventually you'll develop a mental map of the area.

A really good idea is when you start driving, print out (or get somehow) a map of the area so that if you get lost you can take a look and figure out where you're at. It's also a good way to learn the streets too.

Heh i'm 22 and i just taking a defensive driving course, just haven't gone for my in car lessons yet there is 13 in car lessons.

Then after that the course is over.

Then i have to take the governments course which sounded very simple at the classroom for the defensive driving course, when they explained what they will have you do and what they've seen other new drivers do to screw up and fail.

All of which were amusing stories and one or two, where interesting stories as well everyone knows you can't park within 5meters of a fire hydrant on either side of it, but one student apparently "parked right in front of it." Haha doing hill parking that is....

He parked right, but the teacher goes: "So you know what you did wrong?" Teacher looks to his right.... "hydrant right there" student says: "I'm too close to the curve?" Teacher says: "nope your good." student says: "I parked too close to a driveway?" Teacher says, "nope." So anyways the student failed and apparently there was no driveway for like miles.

          LoL.

Very amusing. Watch i'll do something stupider. =P Ha *parks on the sidewalk*

There we go, turn my wheels to the right, set parking break.... *jumps out of the car without looking.

          All done.

          *FAIL*

ORL: it is good to be self reliant, if you can get your license do so but if your not confident get some driving experience with one of your parents.

          ~Cheers.

It will go down into the negative percentage if it has to.
Uh, my defensive driver teacher said if your in an accident your car insurance will go up.

            Will cost more.....

Less you don't put it through your insurance and can settle it between the other driver off the road somewhere.

As otherwise it's suppose to go UP UP UP!

the longer you have your full license, the more your insurance will cover the cost. Doesn't work the other way around.

Ah your talking about if you don't get in accidents, and then it keeps going down / covers more (gives you more money for damages / rental services etc?).

See this i wouldn't know yet as i still don't have a vehicle of my own, or even insurance for a car yet. ^^

i just know if your in an accident and you put it through your insurance to have them pay something out towards it.... it will cause your insurance to cost more.

At least so i was taught/told.

^^ That's how it is in the USA.

Also note in the USA that insurance rates are based on age as well. For some reason a male is considered "mature" to insurance companies at age 25. When i turned 25 last year my insurance dropped dramatically.

Other factors of insurance if you are younger: your grades in school (better grades, cheaper insurance), stick with the company your parents are on (usually get a discount, at least my company offered one), don't get in accidents!!

I was one that couldn't wait to drive. I was a speed demon and wasn't afraid of anything. Kinda sucks to look back at all the times I could've killed someone.

My brother-in-law got his when he was 23. He had no interest in driving. My daughter is 21 and she is in no hurry to get one. We don't pressure her. If she wants to drive she'll do it in her own time. Now I did get her an official Louisiana Id.

                      Maybe a little perspective...

*Providing you wanted to own your own vehicle.* I'm sure they would want you to drive their vehicle.

                      Reliable transportation: $200.00 - $400.00/month for X years.

Full coverage Insurance for the life of financing: I'm guessing $200/month?

Gasoline here runs $2.65/gallon. I just left Chicago from visiting my brother and it's $3.30/gallon there.

                      General maintenance: $30.00/month??

My 93 S-10 still runs great and has 254K miles on it. Proper maintenance. I'll drive it till it drops.
Naturally pricing varies. It's just an example.

                      Bottom line:
Get it when you're ready, not until.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

I've been driving for a long time, since I was about 12. Back then, it was mostly at my grandpas house driving the farm truck. Later on after school, my mom usually would let me drive the car or truck home, since we lived out in the country and there was little worries, since we took back roads.

Now that I'm 15, I have my permit and everything, just waiting to turn 16 and get my license finally. I'm not nervous about getting my license. Kinda anticipating it really, I'm sick of the bus.

It seems like your mother and grandma think that laziness is stopping you from getting your license. Have your dad talk to them about it, maybe that'll get through to them.
