  • Very Replayable Offline games?

    Single Player ONLY

Other than Quake (or Doom) single player name a game that has a very high level of replayability?

I don't think Quake's single player replayability is particularly high --- but it is above average, but with all the hundreds of high quality custom maps and mods, the effective replayability is very high.

What made me think of this is how few modern games seem to offer much beyond the very tight path of linear game play.

A lot of multiplayer games that offer perpetual game play against human opponents can easily have infinite replayability, but in offline games it seems like very few can meet this hurdle -- at least very few I've played maybe :d

    Excluding Doom and Quake.

From past experience I'd have the urge to replay Final Fantasy VI. I already know the story and I already know what's going to happen, but I still find it fun to play over and over.

When I was young, I would be hooked to Duke3d. Playing as a keyboarder, I found that game to be a real challenge. After I beat the game, I'd attempt to beat the crazy time trials that the makers apparently pulled off. Like 31 seconds on the first level or something. I was also hooked to GoldenEye for obvious reasons.

Diablo is just as fun to play offline as it is online. In fact you can skip a lot of player killing bullshit by just playing singleplayer in diablo1. You get more quests too. I do think Diablo2 is meant for multiplayer though. Ask Zop, he's a Diablo2 professional.

Half-Life has huge replay value for me. The 2nd one not so much. I guess it's a one time thing for me.

Last but not least, Metal Gear Solid. That game was boss when it came out long ago and it still is. I have the urge to play it at least once a year. And don't get me wrong, MGS2 and MGS3 have nothing on MGS.

that's it for my sleepy rant. I wonder if I even stayed on topic

Diablo - I almost like it better offline than online.

Any of the non-online Final Fantasy games. Pick up an SNES and play Final Fantasy III - see how Edgar kicks major ass!!

      DOOM!

Hmmm ... I basically had to godmode Half-Life and never got the urge to replay it.

Sole of course means final fantasy VI. It was renamed when it shipped to America because some idiot thought it would be smart to rename them according to what games shipped over to America first. The real Final Fantasy III didn't reach America until last year for a DS remake.

@Baker: ya HL was HARD. I always hated it when I had low health and there were 4 swat soldiers attacking me.

@Rocketguy: Check out one of the early Angry Nintendo Nerd videos. He uses a third party nintendo system that probably doesn't break so often as the original. Mine is broken too My friend has a working one but we have to do all this crazy shit just to make it work XD

                  I agree, Diablo is great.

Online or Offline, you'll probably enjoy both.

I recently reinstalled The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind along with a couple of add ons.. it's a great RPG witch u can play for countless hours and when u'r finally done u can start all over again using a different character class which makes for a totally different experience!

It was designed for direct-X 8.1 so it looks and plays much better on my pretty old GF5600FX then any newer direct-X 9 based games..

for those of you with up to date hardware: Oblivion is what u want i guess

Did we play the same game? HL on Hard was still ridiculously easy, and the ai was so vacant... I never felt threatened in the game really. I was rather disappointed in its idea of "difficulty" which is apparently "you might have to use a health pickup at some point while playing."

                            - Starcraft; be sure to get the Broodwar expansion

                            - Baldur's Gate 1 (just get the Black Isle Compilation, they're all good)

                            - Those who like Diablo should try Icewind Dale, it's built on the Baldur's Gate engine but more geared towards monster killing instead of quests. Main difference compared to Diablo is that you can have a self-created party of up to six members and there are many character classes.
