  • Flock: The New Browser on the Block

Some of you have already heard my opinions on the new browser Flock, but I really must say that it could be the best browser around, but it does indeed need help.

At the moment, Flock is much like Firefox+, all sorts of new stuff, but still basically Firefox, that's why it needs people to help. Any hackers, coders, etc. on this Forum who could possibly help the project would be much appreciated, and all assistance is good, even if it doesnt seem like it will add up to much. I truly believe that Flock has the most potential of all new browsers other than Firefox.

Opera is the best out there. It just doesn't have all the plugins like Firefox does

I tried Opera, and it was outrageously bulky. I didnt like it, just not my type of interface. Any company that needs to advertise in it's own browser doesnt get my business.

Every WebBrowser needs to advertise... Firefox sells t-shirts. I've seen atleast 4 people wearing them. That's advertising! RAWR!

I assume you are talking about banner ads showing in the browser - Opera has since gotten rid of banner ads I believe... and if you think Opera is bulky, then you got some issues? Opera has less bulk than Firefox does I think?!?

I'm all for new stuff, but seriously, those Flock people should put a screenshot on their site somewhere easily findable or visible. There mere fact that they don't do this gives me pause about their odds of success, that is like in "Pimping Your Shiznit 101".

I mean, the only thing worse you can do than not having a screenshot of your product on your product's web site would be to have the site hosted by Geocities or distribute the file in .RAR format.

A screenshot is the first thing you see on the FireFox page. Flock has a BLOG on their site, but no screenshots? If Flock doesn't succeed, they can blame some of it on being inept.

On Opera: I like it on old computers where FireFox runs like a turtle-slug. Opera is fast on any machine, even old klunkers like my first Quake machine. The downside is that it has too much going on (menus have WAY too many options, too many things on the screen, etc.), has built-in advertising (last time I checked) and isn't Open Source.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Bulky on my screen, not in file size. I dont like of this extra crap on my screen, I like an address bar, maybe a few buttons, and the site, if I didnt, I'd use Opera or AOL.

I don't know what version of Opera you've used, but compare :

                    Firefox 1.5.0.1

                    Opera 8.02

I don't have any extra bulk in Opera, and even if there was extra stuff "out of the box" it can be turned off with a simple click of the mouse in the menus.... just like anything in Firefox can be turned on or off...

Different Strokes my man, Different Strokes. It really doesnt matter what Opera looks like now, it made a horrible impression on me when I first used it, and it wont redeem itself unless it busts through my door and offers me six million dollars.

                        (Kmeleon is teh shit.)

You're right, and like Baker said, without screenshots of what Flock looks like I don't think I'm going to bother with it. I don't want to waste my time looking through their site to see what it looks like, or even download and install it.

It's only "bulkier" because you installed the google toolbar, and it can also be made much smaller by snagging a "small buttons" theme of sorts.
