  • Why Microsoft Vista Will Fail

A friend of mine that works in IT told me that the next Windows operating system, the one scheduled to replace Windows XP, called Windows Vista has some unrealistic system requirements.

Here is are the system requirements:

    Vista system requirements

It requires a fancy video card and a lot of RAM (512 MB) and while the amount of RAM isn't really that much for a new computer, a lot of businesses are using computers that are 2-4 years old.

The word is that businesses aren't going to switch to Vista because businesses aren't going to be upgrading video cards and RAM on hundreds of computers just to run a new operating system.

Some people think it is going to be a flop.

I don't know. Maybe or maybe not.

You know, back around 2000 or 2001, someone somewhere wrote a book called "The End of History".

I never read the book, I'm just saying I heard of it.

The plot is something like this: The End of History. All the countries in the world are mature and there really aren't any wars between countries anymore so things are just going to stay the same forever. Maps aren't going to change, countries aren't going to fight, nothing interesting is going to happen.

      And it was wrong.

They've always said this about Microsoft's new operating systems.

What if this is the time where things happen differently than in the past?

Sidenote: This is always why we've always been told to not waste time with Quake. It's dead, it keeps getting smaller and smaller. No one cares. Everyone has moved on. And then look how strong the enthusiasm has been for this site. I don't think the future has to resemble the past. I think things change.

People like to talk and Windows understands the market (hence the $$$).If they are requiring huge computer specs then they know that getting a computer with those specs will be default in a few years. Technology changes and although 512 is more than enough, lots of computers are switching to 1024. We're all pawns of Microsoft.

I know that Windows is guaranteed success until there is a real alternative. Linux is nice, but would have to come pre-packaged with a new computer to ever gain consumer desktop traction.

Not true, I work in IT and I see how Vista can slip in without issue. It's called "3 Year Turnaround", it's where we replace PC's simply because they're out of warranty.

But, however, the only way they're going to get us to use Vista is by dropping support of XP like they're doing/did with Windows 2000.

By the time vista comes out, all computers will come preloaded with 1.5GB or more of RAM, and we will have awesome 1GB ram video cards, and 5 ghZ processors.

It's funny because that's probably the straight truth.

And new games, new software, new browsers, new Linux....Linux is bloated compared to Unix. But guess what, the more they make it look like windows the fatter it'll get.
