Do people still watch American Idol?

Heh, I watched it the first season, part of the second season, and then decided there were more interesting things I could be doing with my time

I also have to admit that I was disturbed by the finalists of the 2nd season. Ruben was so overweight that I found it disturbing and Clay Aiken was a bit of a dork. The first season finalists were cool.

Maybe I'm being too critical, there are plenty of ppl with good singing voices that aren't telegenic.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

First season, I was at my parents house. My singer sings some and so she watched it, and my mom watched some because she liked the voices. My PC was in the same room.

A year later I lived with 2 friends, one of whom is a metrosexual by his own definition and a helluva good male vocalist, big into Queen and such, so it was always on. That and FOX was the only channel we got, literally.

Regarding the show, I think the scheme of it, the judging, the presentation... sucks. I think it does on the other hand have some rather remarkable melodic vocalists, performing mostly unremarkable songs that lack emotion in the music and lyrics which are a detriment to getting a full impact of the performers talent when it comes to harnessing emotion - you cant harness what isnt there, and most of the music they bring on there, whether by their choice or anothers, is rather vapid and weak.

The little bit I have watched though, a lot of people seem very keen on the bombastic starlet diva view, like Christina Aguilera or Mariah Carey's style, where they ruin a good voice by doing ridiculous octave spreads that dont work in the song, just to show "Look, I can go this low and this high, this fast". It is technically admirable, but not musically. It is akin to a guitarist quickly doing an arpeggio and saying "Look I wrote a song!". No you didnt, you played a full scale. Even if youre doing sweeps and taps of that scale in 64th notes, it may sound cool as shit, but its not a song and if its out of key, will clash with whatever the band is playing. Use those things carefully, they are not composition.
