If you can make the cd/dvd rom bootable,and skip finalization step so you can add shit later, then its all gravy.

You could use Bart's BootCD package if you really want to cram that CD as much as possible... maybe setup a BartPE image on a CD along with memtest:

Any Linux Live CD (knoppix, ubuntu etc) should come with memtest86.

i think he was refering to back in the day. i remember when i first used memtest i also thought it was a waste of a disc. cd's ran $1-2
