Commendable as it is to attempt to derail the X Factor machine, I equally despise RATM.

Soulless manufactured pop music with the cynical intention of getting a christmas number 1 in the UK charts. The objective here is to get a song with loads of swearing there instead.

ah... understood. doesn't seem like that big of a deal. seems like a ridiculous target for ratm to put their crosshairs on, but that's not really new for them.

The band members of RATM are not the ones behind this, the chosen song just so happens to be by RATM...

Also mhquake seems pretty quick to dismiss any meanings behind the movement,or what the chosen song represent's. Hypocritical people will tend to hear just enough to displease them to where the no longer bother actually listening...

pretty sure that's inaccurate, while i was waiting on a response here i googled rage and x-factor blah blah or maybe i clicked your link, can't remember. but there is a radio interview with tom morello with some UK radio station, from what i could tell they are in full support of the "movement".

This is an OLD song. Reads like white supremacy to me. Nice "jingle" but to create hype in the "im doing this against simon 'da man" is just the same crap.
Look RATM is sitting on their ass, havent released anything since the mid 90s. They look at the uk charts and see these quazi-gay boy bands making $$, then think hey if ASS sells then lets fork out a song that we made that can be better. So basically, it just old ass candy for xmas. Everyone uses Christmas as a money making avenue. Pathetic.

RATM broke up, a long time ago.Much longer than you'd think... Rage Against the Machine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RATM,as no longer a full entity, is not behind the "Rage against Simon Cowell" campaign.
The man behind the campaign to get Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' to the Number One spot this Christmas ahead of this year's X Factor winner has said the campaign is an act of defiance to Simon Cowell's "music machine".

Jon Morter started a Facebook group urging members to download the song on December 13 with his wife Tracy, to stop The X Factor from claiming the Chrismas Number One for the fifth year in a row.
Killing in the name, is about indeed about 'white' whatever you wanna call it,but more along the lines of back in the 40's and 50's when being apart of the "Ku Klux Klan" was the thing to do....
"some of those who work FORCES (police, military, etc) , are the same people that burn crosses (refering to KKK cross burnings)"

RATM is known for their over-the-top & in-your-face attitude when it comes to getting a point across,I recall jamming Evil Empire for several years, and now listening to the ablum again after several years its still as intense as it was upon its release.

                    Sourced from http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...t-1846247.html
Rock band Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the Christmas charts tonight after a hugely popular Facebook campaign helped the Los Angeles nu-metallers snatch the Christmas number one slot from X-factor’s Joe McEdlerry.

More than half a million people downloaded the band’s famously anti-authoritarian and expletive laden track “Killing in the Name” in what was seen as a broad protest against the increasing influence of manufactured pop music.

It is the first time a non-X-Factor song has made it to Christmas number one for four years and represents a major snub to the show’s creator Cowell who angrily described the campaign to deny him another number one slot as “very Scrooge”.
"FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YA TELL ME" is the message today.

GJ, 5-0 , 2EZ , Simon Cowell to RQ life next.

X-Factor winner McElderry was less than a year old when Rage Against the Machine stormed onto the LA rock scene in 1992 with their self-titled debut album which went triple platinum and effectively gave birth to the nu-metal rock scene by blending heavy metal guitar riffs with politically charged rap lyrics. Earlier in the week he listened to “Killing in the Name” for the first time and described it as “dreadful”.
Now i'm glad to hear that the pompous ass (Simon) and his latest project (McElderry) have failed. If social networking can mobilize enough people to undermine large corporate campaigns such as the X-Factor "Christmas No.1 Single" , thats just earth shattering "Stick it to the man" success. The revolution will start on a social network!
                    hahahaha
