      Swapped out each stick of RAM one at a time and it still shut off. Guess I'll have to get the MB and/or CPU checked. If the CPU was damaged, would the computer boot up? i.e. can I rule out CPU yet?

        If there was something wrong with the CPU, it wouldn't even post - so yea you can probably rule the CPU out

          Any more ideas?

          I know this is a noobie suggestion but have you tried safe mode? and ran anti spyware, a process killer/manager, antivirus, registry repairs, system restore?... all that good stuff

            A dead cpu means a dead computer. If something was wrong with the processor, it wouldn't POST. Aside from that, the chances that the cpu is borked are very low. The cpu is the most durable part of the computer. Motherboards are far more fragile.

              leave these things plugged in;

              powersupply , cpu , and if you have onboard anything , enable and utilize all onboard devices! keyboad,monitor.
              things to NOT have plugged in;
              memory,hard drives,floppy drives,cd/dvd drives, ANY IDE,SATA,PCI or PCI-E devices,unless there is no onboard video,in which case,you can still remove it,for the sake of controlled testing...which is fine, but if you boot without any video device at all, you should most definately get a beepcode and if you do not,time to RMA :/
              With only a motherboard+CPU being powered up, lacking all that extra hardware, you'll recieve HOPEFULLY a beepcode. If PC boots up, gives you a beepcode then does not power down like it has been, power off the tower and start re-adding parts based on what the beepcode says its bitching about, then just keep adding things back until it breaks again or you recieve no more beepcodes. Also , if your motherboard has onboard features that you ARE using, in the same respect as I suggested above, you can try disabling all of the onboard hardware and see what happens. I'll be on MSN all day hit me up if you want some one to assist, I dont mindz at all
