This post was inspired by golden_boy. I wanted to reply to his posts in regards to his references, but something like this needs to have it's own platform.

    NetiQuette 101
    :

I felt this subject to be appropriate for all, so that we can have something tangible to refer to when communicating to each other.

Golden Boy, would you please take the floor?

Spam? Sorry, not trying to pull a fast one on you... I think this is a great topic...

If anyone else would like to add to this, feel free.

              My idea of NetiQuette:

              1. Dont correct speling and grammers. Leave their grammers alone!
              2. Don't connect to servers and screw up team games.
              3. If you do #2 all the time, don't expect to be welcomed by other players.
              4. If your spelling really sucks, ffs download Firefox and quit using Internet Explorer. Firefox has spell check even in ... say ... forum replies like what I am doing now. Really bad spelling scares people.
              5. You reap what you sow. A good community that treats each other and new players with respect will grow and flourish.
              6. You can't "make" people change. But they'll do this in due time if they are in-tune with everyone else.
              7. Treating others with respect and ruining games is mutually exclusive. If you are ruining games, you aren't treating others with respect.
              8. Zero sum. No amount of good actions justify ongoing bad actions. In governments and corporations this is called corruption.
              9. If you aren't having fun, you must be forgetting that it is a game.
              10. Don't spend time trying to "control others". It doesn't work. Instead, control yourself and set an example. When many people do this combined, it works.
              11. Don't type in all lowercase. People assume either your capslock key is broken or you are in the 3rd grade.

Yeah, a little rambling and unfocused. But hey, it's casual conversation.

Netiquette is a concept that has been around since the dawn of the internet (and usenet). It means network etiquette.

It includes common sense rules such as the avoidance of spam (both commercial advertisements and postings or frequent postings without any real substance), trolling (disruptive behaviour, including spamming and flaming, that is motivated by one's desire for attention), and flaming (ie ad hominem insults), as well as not typing in all caps (because for the last 20 years, this has been understood as virtually shouting at someone).

In short, spamming, flaming and trolling, as well as shouting, are against netiquette.

I labelled the OP spam, because it had very little substance. The OP should know bloody well why I suggested he inform himself about netiquette (himself, not us).

Combined with the OP's recent flaming, one could get the impression that he is, in fact, trolling.

Since I am inclined to believe that is indeed so, I simply behaved accordingly.

Thank you Golden Boy for your response. You didn't owe me one, per say.

I would like to further intellectualize this topic, however, I can see some delicate areas that may be sensitive to the touch. I shall refrain from going on too much, until I am lead to believe that matter(s) is/are approachable.

In my opinion, netiquette (in how it is perceived and executed), needs to be looked at in and out of the box... How one person might feel/be justified in a risqu, or tongue-and-cheek post verses another's perception of what is/isn't appropriate.

Yea, keep it civil. Let it go so it can grow. Don't CC unless ya ask. Don't claim to be # 1 only to get beat and act like it didn't happen. Stuff like that.

Reading this reminds me of Shrek 3 when the Prince asks Pinocchio where shrek is and he rambles on in his answer. No offense, it's just the wordage. ha

We should start a thread on common acronyms... If no one does it, I may consider putting one up myself... At first I thought zildjian was saying "CC" like Carbon Copy... i.e.: Asking before including someone in a discussion.

But now it is looking like Color Change. I am pretty sure that Golden Boy's OP means Original Poster.

No offence taken, I am a heavy analogy user myself.
