Added last night as unobtrusive. Gotta pay the cost of the hosting some how... Coulda stuck a huge banner ad at the top of the page or above the forum but opted to stick a small text link bar in between posts randomly.

They unobtrusive yes. But I don't think anyone who goes to the forums clicks on 'Quake 4' ads. Maybe if they were on the frontpage, where more idiots who click ads might end up.

For those of you who didn't know, sole pays the bills for quakeone.com out of his pocket, from a real webhost not one of those chunky $10/year ones. So we all owe him a big thanks!!

I dunno what categories and such you have to choose from with adwords, but I agree with sagt that most people here probably don't care about quake4. How about gaming hardware..mice, 3d cards, etc?

Also is it possible to put a put a "register to remove add banner" blurb on the main page or is it against google's TOS?

BTW, just for everyone's personal info, I use www.powervps.com - it's like a dedicated server divided into 4 or 5 (VPS technology). I have full control over the server and can install/edit anything I want on it. It varies, Google Ads work by advertisers bidding on ad placement. Google Ads will determine what kind of content the webpage is showing and place ads on the site appropriate to the content. Sometimes it'll display very relevant ads, othertimes not so. Since this site has to do with Quake, you'll oftentimes see ads for Quake 4 on here because some company bid $X to stick the text link QUAKE 4 on a page relating to Quake or gaming.

The pay varies. Sometimes you get 1 cent, sometimes you get 85 cents. It all depends on what the advertiser bid for a click.
