Well, some facts from my side:

      Quit date: 24.12.2005 09:40

      Cigarettes per day: 27

Not smoked for: 1 875,2 days

Not smoked cigarettes so far: 50 630

Not sonsumed tar: 759,45 g (this is 1,67 american pound of tar!)

Money saved: 8 100,8 (this are 10960 US $) and that's for the cheap cigarettes i smoked when i quit (2,70 /package). In the meanwhile they are much more expensive...

Well, smoking sucks big time and so does stop smoking. Hang in there StatiC, you could do it. Everybody could quit but the most important thing is: You really want to quit.

I hope you could get the meaning out of my bad english...

Well, Helmut Schmidt is a bad ass smoker, he smokes up to 80 (menthol) cigarettes per day. He started smoking with 15 years. One of the beste (maybe the best in my opinion) politicians in germany. He's an example that people could smoke (hes 91 now) and have not much problems with it. My father in law has COPD, that was one of the main reasons for me to quit.

StatiC i could only encourage you to hang in there. The first few days are the hardest, after day 3-5 the physical addiction (detoxification) is over, the rest of the addiction is only in your mind. It's a head thing. I remember the the first 2 weeks were really hard, then the next 2 weeks were a little bit better. After 3 months i said "i'll never smoke again", but still got some moments when i thought "now smoking one would be absolutely great". You had to go over it, after 6 months you don't think of smoking as long as you see nobody other smoking or smell smoke. After a long time (like me for now 5 years) you don't care about smoking anymore. Really. I don't even have this "smoke one" moments anymore, im done with it.

But one thing must be in your mind: If you get over the addiction (even for a long time) and you are smoke free you never ever be able to smoke a cigarette or cigar again. If you do then it's like a recovered alcoholic drinking alcohol again. The receptors for the nicotin are still there and theiy're hungry.

Schmidt is a retired politician who is often asked for his opinion on stuff. He doesn't usually directly criticize the government etc, but talks in more general terms about being anstndig (decent) and being responsible.

              some subtitles...

im already starting to have moments and tendencies like these.

Ya ill bet that they gonna be stimulated enough by extraneous second hand smoke, i don't want to have a distant look in my eye and reminisce every time i smell smoke 5 years on...
I did love it, SO much, for SO long... damn... i hate em now tho. hopefully this is inspiring other ppL to quit too, but i wouldn't expect "most" to feel the way i do overnight, although im willing to bet that's the way it happens for a lot of ppL..
you got your old husbands that were forced to quit by wives, or doctor gave em an ultimatum, you could meet some chick that don't smoke and blablabla, i don't know if the way i turned on em was a rare case, but i guess this is what "cold turkey" is...

the video made sense, but i guess you would have to be one of the people that are willing to want to quit smoking to be inspired by that, but congrts on quitting, and i wish you the best on your cig-free adventure

                          Thanks!
Tell u the truth I think it was my better sense that finally kicked in on smoking, I've never given too much of a shit for the consequences till i heard what i heard in that documentary, and seen that damned lung whilst that operation was underway. We all know the harms and we all have access to the info and blahblah, but that was the tipping point.
I had 2 cigarettes between the time i finished watching that video and the time i decided to quit, that was days ago ! Not getting sidetracked, I was being plagued by the "new" info i had, i never knew the lung stores that smoke for minutes and releases it slowly THATS NASTY ! and that old guy made a lot of sense.
It's so easy... and just 2 weeks ago, even less, I still loved and savored every drag entirely.
