On another topic, Death Knight's E1M1 thread got me thinking about all those Quake stories you wrote. I found links to them on the TU forums, but they all lead to Geocities... which died ages ago. You have a backup of those anywhere by any chance?

Foq - I didn't get a chance to back them up before Geocities went kaput, but it's no big deal. It was early writing so I'm not all that worried about losing it. I've gotten better with my writing but it's nothing any of you would want to read.

Yeah I popped in FVF a few times, and actually won a game on Shmack yesterday. I guess I'm not as rusty as I thought, this laptop is usually the most unreliable piece of crap.

It's sort of a big deal to me. Early writing or not, they were still good Quake related stories. Well, I enjoyed reading them anyway.

These days you can build a computer for $300 and it can be decent at gaming... Quake capable anyway (outside of high-quality Darkplaces though). That $300 is just the tower though, no monitor/keyboard/mouse etc.

I'd get something better if I had the money. Quit my job at the grocery store cause I had a douchebag coworker trying to tell me what to do. The dude was a 35 year old pothead + satanist + Transformers and G.I.Joe obsessed. He thought since he was 10 years older than me that he could tell me what to do, and got pissy whenever I didn't obey him. He actually left me a list of what he wanted to do every afternoon...I had been working there for 4 years, I know how the fuck to do my job. He even forged one of my manager's signatures to try to get me to follow a list he wrote. Needless to say, my boss was pissed.

But they kept the guy for whatever reason, so one day he kept bugging the shit outta me so I walked out. Went the next day and put a week notice in with my manager.

And to this day, the guy is STILL there. He doesn't do shit for the company other than draw swastikas all over the place and sit around on his ass bitching about everyone else. He got away with a lot of shit at the store he 'worked' at before, so when he got here he was really surprised that he actually had to do work instead of getting to sit around on his ass playing Farmville on his cell phone and smoking weed in the breakroom. And he wanted to boss ME around? What a joke.

Anyway, it was added stress on an already stressful year. I'm glad I quit, though not being able to spend any money kind of sucks. I'm practically on an allowance with my mom until I graduate, and most of what she gives me is gas money.

Quad, you have my sympathy on your loss. My father passed away in '09. But I don't want to talk about depressing stuff. It is my wish that you will return to our humble community. I would also like your blessing on my "E1M1" story that I have going on in this chat-o-rama thing.

I'm working on a web site with a couple of friends at the moment and wondered if you would have any objection to me using some of your stories on the TU site (or any more that you have as I really like your style and the vivid pictures you paint) for people to read? I would of course ensure that you were credited but I wanted to make sure that you would be happy for me to do this before I suggested it. What do you think? Yes? No? I actually wouldn't mind shipping you one of my computers I have here that just sits in the corner collecting dust... it's a Socket A Athlon something or other. It's just a tower, no monitor/keyboard/mouse etc... and it probably needs a video card, but other than that it's an okay machine. I just worry about something breaking during shipping... never shipped a whole computer before and I've heard a lot of horror stories from those who have.

Just by curiosity is this the story you are talking??!

Monty - Sure, though I lost all of QuadRaptor's stories via Geocities being shut down, but feel free to include the few on the TU forums, and I'll look through my more recent ones and post up a few for you to include. They won't be Quake related but I wouldn't mind getting a few more opinions on the style, mostly been writing for my mom and aunt so the feedback I've gotten has been completely positive.

Foq - Nah, don't worry about that. I'm using a laptop right now, we got rid of the old desktop.

I've been popping on FVF the past few afternoons, didn't have anyone show up though. Played some RQcoop with Mindz and Monster though. I really miss the big FVF games, they were always fun.

I gotta grab the mod again too, so I can at least see the skins again.

I got your PM, though lately I've just been using MSN. Maybe I'll boot up Yahoo and AIM and see if anyone's left me any messages lately.

Sorry, I saw your post but forgot to reply. Sorry to hear about your loss, too. I saw your E1M1 event, it looked really neat. But please, don't treat me like some kind of writing guru, alright?

I'm afraid big games on FvF are a thing of the past. Hell, not even Gunter plays anymore... he put his desktop away and just uses a netbook to play. I keep telling him to dig out his desktop, but now know him... "too lazy", he says.

There is only a very small handful of FvF players left. Myself, Monster, meTch, seeingstars, the turk, you, and uhh... Fuzznut... sometimes... and that's about it. Hopefully some people will come crawling out of the woodwork, but Quake seems deader now than it's ever been. The CA/DM community took a big hit thanks to all this Kimp business, internal strife within the community, etc... naturally Runequake players aren't affected by this, but they're the type of people who just slowly erode away on their own anyway... RQ is very stagnant these days... they only ever want to play the same 3 maps (start, DM4, E1M7), never play on any other servers, not even other RQ servers (I've tried persuading people to come to fear a few times, but they all end up turning me down because they "don't know the runes there").
