Hmm... a few quick favorites:
System tweaking:
CPU-Z, GPU-Z, Evga Precision, OCCT, HWMonitor, CCleaner, Driver Sweeper
Various Editing/viewing:
Gimp, Audacity, IrFanView, K-Lite Codec Pack, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Media Encoder, Fraps, Windows Media Player, LameXP
Games (not actual games, but game related programs):
Steam, Alcohol 52% (use it to mount images a lot), PakScape
Security: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot S&D
DC Projects: BOINC (attached to World Community Grid), [email protected] GPU client
Misc: Google Chrome (only cause [email protected] lags IE9 horribly), Teamviewere|------------------------0---------------

System Tools:
Ultra Mon - MultiMonitor tool - allows to spread a screensaver to all windows, also allows a taskbar that is dependent on each monitor. So all open apps don't cluster your primary window.
CCleaner - very useful
SpyBox - we all know it
HiJackThis - useful for some of those annoying malware
Media (Audio + Visual)
Winamp - I use the modern skin with the Qwake color theme - then edited it to use dpquake and quake font. DPquake is everywhere except playlist menu in which the all calps Quake font is used.
Goldwave - A great tool to do anything audio.
PaintShop Pro 7 - my graphic tool of choice. I have Photoshop and PaintShop Pro 9 installed as they each have plugin support that 7 lacks (DDS support for one) - but I use 7 for EVERYTHING. It's layout is ideal for me.
Irfanview - great to go through 100's of textures in a single folder. Has saved me alot of time browsing through textures where I need one but cannot recall the filename (usually Quake related)
Web (Browser + Downloading)
FireFox - I've gave all browsers a try. I find it's the best for me. Chrome caused many pages to not display correctly when I used it. Opera I just didn't like the layout. FireFox would be great if it fixes the memory leaks in it's Plugin_container.exe
Azureus/Vuze - works great. I know better downloaders are out there. I use this mainly due to it's support to stream movies over to my PS3 and XBox 360.
uTorrent - better than Vuze for downloading, use it for when it's non-media related downloading (game/software ect).
Game Tools (no need to list games as it will be long)
QME - Great Q1 model tool
DPmodel - use it to compile my content
Milkshape3D - Use it to make the non-detailed part of my models. Sometimes I use it entirely. My Laser Cannon for SoA was done entirely in Milkshape (minus the UV Mapping)
"My-Key" - lol he isn't software, however he has been VERY helpful in some of my bigger releases. The Laser Cannon and my wip Rottweiler he mapped out for me. It's my weakest skill in modelling.
LightWave - Use it sometimes for detailing my models. Has nice tools and the layout is much more basic than many programs. I use it as I learned it in High School in Grade 12 when Animation 20 got introduced.
3D Studio Max 9 - Love 9, not sure why. I suck in 3DS though, I use it for it's HUGE support to file formats, so I use it to convert mainly.

Visual Studio
TextPad
Paintshop Pro (Gimp could be a "go-to" .. I wish they'd rewrite the interface to be effective and productive)
Filezilla
iTunes
VLC (I use this to play movies; let's me skip the bullshit and I don't completely trust Microsoft)
Google Chrome (faster and more stable than FireFox)
WinMerge (source code comparison tool)
Agent Ransack (File search in Windows blows)
Putty would be in my list if I used SSH more. But Solecord gets to do that stuffAnd Irfanview is important from time to time for image conversion.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I used to manage thousands of PCs and hundreds of servers for a living. You get used to the crash/restore cycle and learn not to be dependent on having lots of software on your PC (and to leave system settings at their defaults). All I need is Visual C++, GoldWave, a fast image editor and a browser of some description.IT LIVES! http://directq.blogspot.com/
