• Sole is losing

Sole was leading 1st place in the GameStatus for Smack RQ. Now BACR has snatched the lead away from him. Who shall win by the end of this week?

haha I don't care about total frags... FPM (frags per minute) seems to be a better stat. If you look at the rankings page and sort by FPM... I'm listed as 11th as of this post, but the people above me have played less than 60 minutes. My current FPM is 3.53

FPM varies by map and number of players and how long you play. A strong player can do 7 or 8 FPM on DM6 with 12 players.

I think the coolest stat would be percentage of time in first place, but that would be incredibly difficult to do.

The EXP stat on the game status is a good sign of strength, because it factors in whether you are winning the map and how many players are present.

Ya if u camp enough and only play when it's crowded, you can rack up the FPM real quick. Just ask Sole.

haha, sure it's easy to get high FPM, espeically playing maps like start, e1m7, dm6, etc. But when you play the larger maps like e4m3, e4m4, e4m? it's not as easy to keep the higher FPM. I've been playing those larger maps when I've been on this week... I think I've played start three times. The rest of the time were larger maps.

And I don't like that exp stat. It doesn't make sense to me. Unless I'm wrong, one factor in the exp is you get higher points for the more people on the server at that time. It should be the opposite way IMO. The less people on a server, the harder it should be theoretically to get frags. With more people it's easier to grab a frag here or there "on accident" by spamming weapons into areas where players tend to camp or congregate.

Also I've seen weeks where Surfer Girl has been the exp leader on Shmack but only because she played over 2000+ minutes that week. Her frag rate was 0.75 or something but because of sheer number of minutes played she had a high exp.

Gamestatus is the most retarted ranking system ever. It shows nothing of how much skill the player has, just how much the player plays. A really sucky player could play 12+ hours a day, only getting 10 or less frags per match, and still win in the gamestatus rankings.

Yeah, they *could*. But usually it is someone tough like that Puroland guy, whoever he is.

FRAGS just shows you are a dedicated and competitive player!

EXP is where it's at!
It shows the experience of a player against other players
and has proven itself through the years.

You could play all day and get 10 frags per match and
still will show that you are a poor player.

FPM rankings are not ranked unless you have a certain number
of frags with a consistent time played.

You could spend days on playing but time does not help you in
getting your stats up!

All proven methods and yet take your choice of rankings...

* Monster needs to go back to class and learn some more math.

Is it possible to have a page showing monthly and yearly stats as well as just weekly stats for each server?

It's true. If you see some softy leading the stats, usually if you click to sort by Exp the real badass emerges as #1.

Exp works off the theory that you might be #1 with 5 players on the server, but when 10 players are on a server, only the players that are "for real" are capable of winning consistently.

That would give Jackhole a migraine, although there are the GameStatus.Net archives.

I think I asked him that years ago and he said something to effect that the actual database resets every week, he dumps the data to archive to preserve at least some of that info.

I understand the consistancy part but the larger the number of players the easier it is to get frags IMO,e ven for the "noobs" who may not be as good as people like toyo, chainheart, etc. A prime example is that one HPB player (can't think of his name right now)... he racks up 30 some frags when the server is full just because he spam's nades into large rooms or camps teleporters on some of the maps. When the server clears he can't get any frags over some of the better players. That's why I don't like the more exp for more players on a server part. It's harder to get more frags when there's only 3 players on the server when compared to 12 players on the server. And this is even moreso with Runequake...

One game doesn't count! If he can get that every game then he
must have some technique or skill. Still comes down to the old
arguement camper/spammer vs dm/1 on 1.

I have been playing quake SNS <--
and I know who rocks, who is average, and who
sux for years on IHOC/RQ/RA/CRMOD servers.

It just seems to work! If anyone has other
ways to rank players I would love to hear
about their theory or calculations.

TheCLQ RIP...

well I had an idea, but when I was running the math , i realized the idea that I had and what the math was resulting , wasnt agreeing with I was intending.

JackHole has preformed some rather kick-ass replacements for TheCLQ,and coming up with a respectable ranking system that works out properly in every situation of gameplay is harder than you might think.(Who doesnt know about CLQ,or wasnt playing quake during the CLQ days ??Good Question isnt it !!=)

the idea of crunching numbers I tried approaching made it better to quake with a quater of a full server (shmack being 16 as the basis,4players = 1/4 full server) by a long shot compared to a full 16 player server.
TotalFrags ÷ totalplayers = Score total every map, Which adds up for a total per week.

=-) thanks Jack, for Gamestatus.net Ranking System !!
