  • The Godfather

Those rich bastards have made a game out of "The Godfather". It's a very nice game, and it works alot like True Crime, only it has a lot more features and stuff. If you have ever seen the movie and you liked it, get this game. If you didnt see the movie, get the game anyway.
Warning: this is one of those games that take alot of cumputer guts to run. On my system, it runs a little choppy when there are like 20 guys shooting, or if there is something exploding/lots of smoke nearby. I ran it on 800x600 with all the nice features off like antialaising and asnistropic filtering. My system specs:
    P4 2.8 533 system bus 1mb L2 cache
    512md DDR RAM
128mb Nvidia Geforce 4 FX 5200 ultra card overclocked.*
*GPU speed: 350 MHz. Ram clock speed: 700 mhz.

Of cource, the replay value of the game sucks as with all others, and there are points VERY difficult to complete in the game that can be EXTREMELY fursturating.
This game is very, very difficult without a trainer. Heres an analogy, without a trainer in this game = getting jumped by 5 guys. Nearly impossible to get out of. It's a nice game with a trainer.

            the_f0qer,

            512md DDR RAM

I run this game on high detail, at around 1280x1024 smoothly when even I'm cop stompn on the streets. Maybe its your weak ass Gforce FX 5200 128mbs of crap video card you have. I should know I owned one for 3 months. I spent alot of time thinking "Maybe I'm missing some super important drivers because this card supports DX9.0!" and "maybe if I just overclock the living shit out of it I'll get the performance I desire" Neither of these options work.

The Geforce FX 5200 128/256/1gb/10GB video car no matter how much ram or features it can support is 80% utterly CRAP! The hype about his video card should only excite 80 year old ladies who just baught Chess master for $9.00 in the bragain bin because as it might play Quake well its obvious you play more then just Quake because you posted about a game your telling everyone else to get.

You probly baught your FX5200 for $68 retail when they were fairly new or by now found a used one for $32 on ebay. This is the bottom of the barrel in the Geforce FX line. I'm not trying to just shoot bullshit at you I want to stress to you that your video card is holding your WHOLE gaming experince back. I can Quake IV, Doom III, FarCry & HalfLife 2 at awesome speeds for my current rig, not the best by far but definitly playable without turning details to 0% Quake IV gives me alittle bit of trouble on multiplayer its also alot more CPU intense then the other games, so is Doom III. Below is the current rig I game on.

            Athlon XP 2100+(1.73Ghz 512K or 256K L2 cache.. one of the 2)
Abit µGuru AN7 mobo (Nforce chipset)
1.5GB System Ram running at 333FSB CL2.0 Dual Channel
            160GB Maxtor Harddrive [email protected]
            160GB Maxtor Harddrive [email protected](storage)
            SoundBlaster Live! Value soundcard,
            450watt PSU(Power supply)
            ATI Radeon 9800 128MB videocard(Default speed)
as you can see your CPU is superiour to mine but my video card can kick your video card's ass with with its heatsinkfan tied behind its back.

I made the HUGE jump from the FX 5200 to the ATI Radeon 9800 128MB and never looked back. I wasn't even upset when the FX 5200 got stolen, I was actually kinda happy because it saved some space for my CoV(City of Villians) DVD collectors box

For the sake of you're self and your PC replace that FX5200 with atleast a ATI Radeon 9250, I've installed a 9250 and to my suprise it played roughly twice as fast as the FX 5200 for about the same price! I'm not a ATI rep and I'm not a Nvidia basher, I loved my Geforce GTS 32MB but it burnt out on me after much Quake abuse.

If I were you and looking to upgrade my PC I would start off at the video card, then more ram, atleast 1GB. You will notice a BIG jump in performance from switching from your current FX 5200

            Benchmarks

Yes, I am aware that my surrent vid card isn't great. It's because of the GPU and ram clock speed set bu Nvidia. I overclocked it a bit more (GPU now at 350 MHZ and ram speed now at 700 MHZ) and it runas quite nicely at 1024x768, thank you very much, may I have another?

Just let'n you have the down and dirty,

Its great for Quake, Runs Quake fast and steady, but for the bigger games it lacks, its your choice.

And if you don't know, know you know.

Phenom is right.. and not only that, the whole FX line was pretty terrible anyway. (I got a 7800GTX so I don't need to worry )

There's no way I'm getting this game. I saw a commercial or something for it and it looked like they took the Godfather and reduced it to... well, a video game. I love the movies to itsy widdow bits, and the game looks like GTA replaced with Godfather graphics. Nothing but killing people. I'm not kidding, the commercial had a guy telling the player something along the lines of, 'Listen kid. You gotta steal a car and run over 3 guys.' I'm sure there are hundreds of other missions that are nearly exactly the same. The movie had its share of killings, but it was art, and this game looks to be the lowest of trash... (although I have yet to see a video game that approaches 'art')

Missions that stood out in The Godfather video game

Throw the police chief off a building and make it look like a cover up

Drive The Don to the hospital while being chased

Beatup 2 punks who beatup some girl (I liked slamming their heads into the tombstones )

Kill a horse, cut its head off then sneak into someone's bead while there sleeping in it gross!

Shoot people in the kneecaps (This one isn't a mission but its a cool feature)

Throw around average everyday pedestrians that talk shit to you(Not a mission but fun)

Swing at The Don and listen to him say "You are nothing to me" HAHAHAHA

                    ***
                    PROS:
The voice acting I thought was good in this game, the graphics are good (I've seen better).

The controls have a bit of a learning curve but are easy to remember.

You really do have multipule choices when it comes to execution.

you get to hear the Godfather theme music!

                    CONS:
Driving from mission to mission takes along time and I tend to get sidetracked by the urge to explore all the small icons on the map

Driving feels tight but alittle unrealistic, not that big of a deal

I would have liked to see the world be alittle more "open" as in, GTA VC or GTA SA. I miss sniping people from roofs at will!

The world feels closed in and at times flat to me. I'm comparing this to GTA SA tho.

Well it's cool that they nabbed Brando to do the voice before he bit it.
