  • unpowered monitor speakers (tweeters)

What'cha all know about setting up a PA system with unpowered monitor speakers, i'm aware they need a mixer for them to function as i got a basic 101 breakdown / demonstration of them with an old 40watt mixer, that two tweeters was connected too.

However i was opting out for a newer mixer, got the two 15inch monitor speakers cheap tho, 60bux for both.

Just can't find a whole lot of info on google so i figured i'd pick your brains on this.

If you have valuable linkage to post do so, i'll do some readings.

    Thanks,

    Just curious.

    ~Ler.

        You lost me at Pennsylvania.

I did play monopoly so I guess maybe the "Reading Railroad" might have something to do with the answer you are looking for.

/WTF? A PA system? With unpowered monitors? Even Mindz has nothing useful to say about that, and when does that happen? This is like WTFville.

I believe PA stands for Passive Active. <-- not sure on that, as they are also known as reference monitors, studio monitors, stage monitors, but i know technically others know small setups as PA system. I think PA system is probably passive active but i'm uncertain.

PA systems are used on stages for annoumences as well as by vocalists in bands.

          Monitors are stage monitors:

Such as this, which can be mounted on a pole or layed down on the stage.

          Did find this site: http://www.tweakheadz.com/studio_monitors.htm

Its got some useful info but not everything i was looking for yet.

Now that isn't fair to Lerster.

I'm couped up at home while female goes out with friends she rarely sees is in town (I don't get jealous of males, but being ditched for girly friends ... )

Anyway, I got pizza, 2 Red Box movies and adequate supply of beer.

I haven't ruled out that maybe if I drink enough of those beers, maybe I'll be like "Aw shit, why didn't I understand that before! Lerster you see this is what you need ... "

[However, realistically I could spend all night partying with Captain Morgan and I just don't see this the above scenario happening ... ]

He wants a monitor or the speakers from one to act like a PA system, which sounds complicated

It makes me wonder what solving Ler's delimma will enable him to do. Why does Ler need a PA system..

Well i found out from a friend of mine that knows lots of stuff about the crap.

That the one i was looking at "mixer" is not powered so it will not work for my needs and it was "crappy" in his opinion.

So i may go for my 40watt mixer option for 40bux, then i will be ready to go... just will have to rearrange my 100watt cabinet, and the monitors and whatnot to get it all setups.

Then i can record some improves with some powered vocals. ^_^

                              Should be good funs.

As option 2 as he said is one get a mixer + a powered amp for the monitors, which he claims is really costly i don't doubt it as monitors are usually 220 and greater in cost per unit.

An mixers seem to range anywhere from 300 and such up for (powered) mixers.

So yeah i may give in i'll decide by friday (payday) what i will do.

Anyways thanks for all the "non-helping" an whatnot just figured someone might've known some shit here. lol

                              ~Cheers.
