  • Laptop batt/psu problem.

From the beginning. Old battery was damaged, wouldn't hold a charge, but you could still use the computer as long as the charger was connected. Then the charger broke (damn kids). Bought a new charger (was supposed to be compatible with this laptop), it works, but the plug that goes into the input of the power unit is slightly too big, as in it comes free from the computer relative easily. Granted, the old chord was tripped over and yanked and bent out of the computer numerous times (bent/damaged port/input possibly).

Recently replaced the old battery. New battery wasn't the cheapest, but not the most expensive. Old battery, did not hold a charge, but was fine as long as it was plugged in. New battery holds a charge, but will not charge if laptop is on. Taskbar icon shows that it's charging fine for about 2 minutes and indicator lights show everything is doing what it's supposed to. Then, it suddenly stops. The taskbar icon shows a half charged battery, and the indicator lights show something is wrong. The green one that shows a connection shuts off. The orange one that turns green after a completed charge, stays orange but blinks. The orange one never blinks otherwise. never has. until this battery. If the computer is off while charging, it charges perfectly fine. no issues.

what do i do? send the battery back, try a different brand? get the original manufacturer charger? I've read sometimes a new port is needed, sometimes some soldering needs to be done on receptacle joints. Just hoping someone has had this exact problem. It's a toshiba satellite l455-s5008.

i'm not lazy, i've been googling this for a few days now, trying to ask different ways. but i can't find anyone that has had this precise problem.

    thanks in advance.
