I haven't been to Mexico. I heard some people say that it's a very nice place. But how safe is Mexico? I've heard some shocking stories about drug cartels in Mexico. I don't know much about Mexico; I'm just asking. (I'm looking for a vacation spot for the summertime.) So have you visited Mexico?

Mexico is very nice. Obviously Cancun is a very very big American vacation destination. Look into going to southern mexico as well. Anything in the northern or central area is cartel controlled. Be careful in Cancun and stay in the tourist area's or get a tourist guide, Their have been a few kidnappings in recent years of American's being held for ransom. Usually these ransom's stay quite as the cartel's are only asking for small amounts of money. The Fed's call it (cheap kidnapping) as the amounts are always less then $10,000 USD. Anyway, be careful where ever you vacation outside of the country. Heck even in our country! good luck.

been to cancun before, it was nice but i didn't go out much i stayed at the all inclusive resort an drank an ate for free for 7 nights... an i was only awake mostly at night-time.

Also i wanted to mention, check travel alerts before going to any country and avoid driving out of tourist areas unless accompanied by a tourist service. Usually the resorts you check into in other countries have a list of tourist information and some even have maps telling you where NOT to go. I have been to a few countries including mexico, canada, germany, ireland, italy, bahamas and trinidad.. Used to work for a body guard service for 8 months protecting fortune 500 CEO's. Good job great pay and lots of travel, but always at risk of loosing your life to an assassin to protect a rich asshole who dont care about you or the next person. Anyway be careful where ever you go!
