I read somewhere that parents are feeding their kids so much bottled water that they (the kids) aren't getting the fluoride they need for good tooth health. Whoda thunk it... Soccer moms not wanting their little babies to drink that nasty tap water. Well there ya go... now go pay for little Billy's dental work! Fluoride is added to the tap water where I live and I think it tastes pretty darn good... unfiltered. The only time I'll buy bottled water is when we go to the beach. Don't know what it is about east coast beaches but I think the tap water tastes like crap!

From 81 to 01 I lived on tap water(Alaska tap water) then from 02-12 I drank bottled water since I refuse to drink Oklahoma tap water connected to the water system. Now I have my own well and am very happy with the quality of water I get. It's not Alaska tap water fresh but it's still 100% passable.

I remember buying "cases" of bottled water 2-3 at a time and when there wasn't bottled water I would resort to drinking orange juice or tea(bottled usually) or fruit.

I'm all for helping the environment and try to leave as little of a carbon footprint as possible. I also try to optimize my energy usage. However I don't recycle much.

The premise wasnt WATER, it was the plastic bottle that is creating more pollution than anything else.

Sodium Fluoride (which is what is in water) is a powerful neuro-toxin and bi-product of the aluminum and fertilizer industry. The exact same fluoride that is put in our drinking water was being used in the water in Nazi Germany to make Jew captives docile. There is absolutely no proof that fluoride is responsible for healthy teeth. As a matter of fact the opposite is true. Google "dental fluorosis".

aside: Why would fluoride be put in your water for your teeth when a very very small portion of it will ever make it to your mouth? Most of the fluoride you absorb is from bathing and has no effect on your teeth what-so-ever. they dump toxic waste (literally) in our water and then "convince" us it is for our health AND make us pay for it. It must be nice to work for the aluminum and fertilizer industries, they don't have to worry about regulations and the cost of proper disposal. They get paid to dump their garbage right in our water and eventually our bodies.

Back in the 1930s and before having a full set of teeth to age 18 was rather uncommon. Think of George Washington and his wooden teeth.

Fluoride ions bond to bone ... therefore your teeth ... and make it far more difficult for the acidic waste produced by bacteria particularly from sugar or starch to cause cavities.

Without dental care, even a single cavity will lead to tooth loss. Food will get in the cavity, bacteria will consume it there, making the cavity worse and leading to infection.

In the 1950s, they discovered that in the Southwest tooth loss was way less common. So was dental fluorosis. It was due to natural fluorine content in the water supply.

The effect fluoride ions have on teeth is similar to the relationship between iron (which easily rusts) and galvanized steel (which is very rust resistant).

The use of fluoride may be overdone today (just like everything else: too much salt, sugar, additives, etc.), but having a full set of teeth today is almost solely due to the use of fluoride.

I don't doubt that you are right about FLUORINE but unfortunately they don't stick fluorine in the water, the stick hydrofluosilic acid and sodium fluoride in the water. I forget how to get the information but you can get the local water content for every city in the united states - hydrofluosilic acid or sodium fluoride has been the "fluoride" in every last one I ever looked at. These are also the key ingredients in rat poison. There is rat poison in your water - it's good for your teeth.

[Right now I'm really worried that they are no longer teaching even basic chemistry in high school any more. Fluoride is the ion form of fluorine (the 9th element, the most reactive one). Acid devolves in water into the positive ion and the negative ion, in your example sodium is (Na+) and Fluorine is the negative ion (F-). Fluorine forms very stable bonds ... which is why chlorofluorocarbons are outlawed .. the only thing that can break their bonds is ionizing radiation in the upper atmosphere where then they turn into radicals and start ripping up the ozone molecules again and again... ]

I am not someone who would say "You should trust 'science' blindly'" ... you absolutely should not. Science has to be proven, critiqued and torn apart; "consensus" and other non-scientific methods I've heard lately of proving "truth" are pure bullshit. Science must be proven.

But in this particular case, I would encourage you rather than just believe what you are told --- instead decide to learn and educate yourself on the subject at hand so the opinion you hold is your own that you reached through thorough knowledge and weighting the information and reach your own personal conclusion. Not that many people would believe it, but Alcohol is classified as a solvent, not any kind of food, it has zero nutritional value, the liver cannor process it at all, so it oxidizes the liver with each ingenstion, reducing its ability to clean the blood properly....thats just one known problem. There is also some study that revealed the liver is responsible for sending signals to the pancreas....and if disrrupted, can cause problems with the pancreas, which is suppose to produce insulin. Can anyone guess what disease that is?
