Download acceleration utilities aren't a scam. (Net Zero IS a scam).

Some download accelerators cheat by starting 5 downloads of the same file from different starting points.

Useless for dialup, however it is true acceleration from these utilities for broadband.

Additionally, when I was on dialup, if I didn't use GoZilla (came with spyware, which I uninstalled) I had no prayer of downloading a 60 MB game demo.

With GoZilla on dialup, I could download a 60 MB game demo. It might take 2 days, but if the dialup disconnected, I could continue from the same spot.

I actually managed to download some huge game demos on dialup, I'd start 5 or 6 downloads and go to sleep.

(Btw ... dialup internet page view acceleration like Net Zero claims is a SCAM. It is up to 5 times faster, in like 0.01% of cases where their cache of a page shortens the page load time for a popular page = useless = basically lying.)

I cry when FireFox crashes and I lose my cache. I have to redownload all my internet again...

The way to go on dialup is using batch download managers. Most of them come with pause and resume ablities, which is good for me because my dialup can only be connected for 12 hours straight (what a kick in the bajangos), so when downloading one of my favorite anime series such as Cowboy Bebop I would take about 4 reconnects per episode.

The truely crappy thing about it is that I can't browse the internet whilie it downloads, also, my computer was up for 3 months straight and it died, it died hard. I lost all I had downloaded too.

I lived in the woods by myself for about 4 years after that day.
