This is a funny factoid about costs of things during their "introduction" as a new technology and throughout its lifecycle has become insanely cheap by comparison...

"I bought my first CD in the 1980s and it cost $20 but now you can make one for less than 10 cents. The cost of a light bulb has fallen 7,000-fold during the past century," Professor Lackner said.

Price of gas sucks, but the prices of everything else aren't so bad, so I don't worry about it all that much.

What I hate is a sudden jump of the price from one day to the next. It never seems consistent.

          Hmmm,

Isnt it common in the US to drive cars with capacities of 3 or 4 litres ?
And a gasoline usage of 20+ litres per 100 km ?
I dont know much about it, but I heard it often in TVs and so.
I guess as long as the thinking of these people did not change, it makes little sense to talk about gasoline prices...

On the other hand, it makes no sense as well, that cars in small europe countries only need 3 litres per 100 km as long as millions of other people in the world dont care about nature and drive V8 engines to bring their kids to school.

China is a good example for that as well. They are expending dramatically and dont think one minute about mother earth.

But I guess my post has become offtopic and does not match the threads idea. If so, I am sorry.

No it isn't,in fact I agree even more to the point I think gasoline is far too cheap and would like to see it priced in the 10$ a gallon range
Maybe attitudes would change about green tech then.Greasy oil executives are the bane of not only the US but the whole world.

If gas was $10 a gallon everyone would starve to death because the price of food would be exponentially greater but incomes would not change. This on top of the higher price for you to even get to the store to buy food. Imagine something as simple as peanut butter becoming 10$ for a small jar. 6$ for a loaf of cheap bread. $15 for a box of cereal.

Of course it wouldn't end with food and gas. All your utility services would skyrocket as well. Actually, everything would be significantly more expensive. $10 gas wouldn't save the Earth, it would create massive economical issues and complete Anarchy.

@Seven - My vehicle has a 35 gallon (132.4L) tank and gets about 10 miles (16k) to the gallon. That is pretty much the norm for over sized vehicles in the US. However, my first car was a compact, front-wheel drive 4 cylinder and I got about 50 miles (80k) per gallon and had a 12 gallon (48.4L) tank.

I've never run into a vehicle that can hold less than 10 gallons (40 liters) in the gas tank.

And a gasoline usage of 20+ litres per 100 km ?
That'd be 5 gallons for 60 miles or 12 miles per gallon. A big pickup truck might get that, but most cars get about 30 mpg highway or 7.84 liters per km.

I think the larger more important discussion here is falling on deaf ears.

1]Petrol out of Thin air using "Green Energy" to produce "Green Gasoline/Petrol"

If you're all hopped on up what MPG your vehicle gets (or your neighbor gets) then no amount of WOWZERS type breakthrough technologies will EVER cease you narrow minded thinking.

                    Time for some math...

Wikipedia lists 637 refineries , lets say that LESS THAN HALF of those are in the buisness of refining crude oil into usable gasoline/deisel fuels.

                    So,nice rounded number is 300.

The possible output production , they have a 1 TON a day plan already designed / yet to be implemented.

Lets say that 300 of those refineries update/modernize to create the same (but CLEANER) product , thats 300 refineries pushing 1 TON of product a day.

                    300 TONS x 365 = 109,500 TONS of GASOLINE/PETROL.

The whole process is CARBON NEUTRAL, and its "Ace in the Hole" ingredient is CARBON DIOXIDE, a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY readily availible product. Just fucking breathe bro,and you're supplying it.

Honestly, only tree-huggers are going to be mad that we're "Stealing from the plants" OH NOES SAY IT ISNT SO!!

I read an article a few weeks ago about gas prices. By the law of supply and demand, it makes sense for the gas prices to skyrocket (sometimes). Remember the storm in the southern states? Some gas refineries really got hit. Moreover, some refineries were temporarily shut down in Chicago and Detroit for some repairs. I think that when gas prices really go up, people should resort to public transportation. It is a pain in the butt, I agree. But human beings can get used to that.

As for producing "petrol from air", I cannot comment on this operation. (Do not count the chickens before they have hatched.) We will just have to wait and see... Could this be the ultimate solution? Only time will tell...

There is no room for scam artists in the scientific community. There is just too many eyes focused on you to be a snake oil salesman in the world of science.

I know absolutely dick all about creating gasoline etc, but I do know that making a epic scientific claim to discovery + the attention you garner from epic claims of discovery = trying to fool the scientific community will ruin any future you have of being "taken seriously",and as such I have no doubts that its real.

Al Gore and his man-made climate change disagree with you. The scientific community is primarily snake-oil salesman.

Maybe they don't start that way and maybe not every scientist - but primarily scientists are full of shit and will say whatever will get them funding. If you see the scientific community call this bullshit, you can be guaranteed an oil company paid them to do it. If this truly was/is bullshit, you would never hear a peep from the scientific community cause this project would go nowhere and die unnoticed.
