Looks like Frenzy forgot about this thread. I saw him playing CA last night so he is still alive and connected.
Therefore.
The tournament will start: Thursday, September 28th 8 or 9ish EST.
We'll meet up at ctf.clanhdz.com, choose teams, and best 2 out of 3 wins.

I know this is a couple of months late but I've just recently gotten back to Quake and would really like to play CTF again... If you guys are still around, would someone please tell me at which server, day & time you've been playing? I really hope that it's still possible to play good old quake CTF!

I have been playing in the mornings this week (10-noon a.m. est) with Baron, some SA guy, Koopsta hdz, bosh and blueberry for a while now... I love 3wave ctf, and want to get back into it... ppl just need to start idling on the server

did this thread ever develop into anything? i know its a year old but a tourney would still be a great idea. CTF is at the stage where there are still enough people to play the occasional game, but they have to be mustered and organized b/c they're usually on some other mod that they like less but are forced to play through lack of active ctf servers

I think the problem here is most people do not have the mod , or if they do , they do not have a config customized to comfortability. Would you play a mod that you do not feel comfortable playing?. Lets help everyone out with a thread on how to customized a config for CTF.

I've seen 14 players playing 3Wave and it is no harder to install than the QuakeOne map packs, Rocket Arena maps or the Dredd maps pack, which are effortless.

The real problem with CTF:

1. Too many players talk about CTF, but don't actually make the effort to organize a game like the TDM guys. Talking about CTF is *not* going to make games happen.

Team deathmatch was in the same situation last summer until the deathmatch guys started recruiting and playing DM.

I've seen countless times where someone connects to Rage or Dredd or even Shmack and asks/advertises team games at CRMOD.

That's how you do it. It works.

2. I don't think CTF is as fun as Clan Arena, especially Clan Arena at Dredd. That's just my opinion.

3. CTF takes a long time to play and the teams can get stacked pretty easily, which can be frustrating if you are in a "bad teams" game. Although this can happen in DM too, DM isn't as complicated as CTF (hook, control the flags, etc.)

4. Takes more skill than other mods to be good at. This means if you don't know what you are doing, it is very hard to learn how to play in a "winning way." Especially a lot of the 3Wav maps.

I agree with Baker on the fact that it doesn't seem that appealing to *new players*, but those of us who know the game, and know how to play it, should easily be playing every Thursday night.

I have Thursday nights off for now on more or less, and I'm willing to cooperate/dedicate some time to 3wave CTF, or public CTF at that. So Thursday night CTF, and Sunday night CA.

Seems like it'll be a nice thing. Lets pull together a bit huh? Lets decide on a server to meet at Thursday nights, say 8-9 pm central? crctf.clanhdz.com ?
