I have to admit. Spooker is very good at photosh.. runequake. Every time I join shmack:26000, I usually see spooker on top.

Runequake is not the most skillful mod that one can play in quake. In fact it incorporates the most luck out of any mod that people play today; CA, RA, TG DM, 1V1 DM, CTF, FFA DM all have a higher skill:luck ratio than runequake.

RuneQuake isn't random except on the very small spammy maps (START) [which I hate playing but that's another story].

In fact, although Rune Quake often appears to an outside observer as a talentless mod because it has a lot of average skill level players, it is in fact a very difficult mod and requires a lot of skill/knowledge to master.

The biggest learning curve issue in Rune Quake is the grappling hook; the rest of it is really regular Quake in disguise, any skilled player will go for Strength/Resistance type of runes and ignore everything else.

I'm not saying runequake is all luck. I'm just saying there is more randomness to runequake than every other mod that people are currently playing. Random spawns for armor, random stuff that just kills you. And yah, going for the better runes is great, but sometimes you kill someone, and hey a bad rune just laned on you, well damn.

Baker is right. it takes more talent to master runequake than most other mods. i wrote a Runequake strat guide not long ago. read that and you'll see that understanding how to use each rune efficiently makes the game what it is rather than just a bunch of noobs running around spamming traps and shooting BFGs around every corner. know how to use the runes you want to get. know how to ditch the runes you dont want to get. know where the weapons are. know where the armor spawns and how to time it just right so that you always get a red. know where the highest traffic is in each map. know where people like to place traps most commonly and avoid those areas or use caution around them. most importantly of all, know the physics of the grappling hook. the hook alone sets one apart from others. a smart quake marine and his hook can turn a seasoned RA veteran into a pile of gibs without taking much damage at all...if any. C*S chooses not to believe this...but what does he know
