  • Some simple renders of models

It's been just over 10 years since I worked on anything Quake related.
But I felt this may be the correct area to post some past and possibly
    future work in.

    If I'm mistaken.
Feel free to tell me so.

I've spent the last 3 years working on a Reality Based Mod.
But on the side I do Strange things.

    Here's My Vril Pilot start.
    He's fully rigged.

And here's the Ship he Pilots.

Some Guns I've Modeled and placed in Game.

Creating Damage models for a new aircraft I built.

    Actual photo.

    My Model.

I hope you enjoy the images.
And I also hope you all give me some feed back.

    Regards,
    Privateer

      Thanks Mate.

It's not my intention to come here as if I know alot.

Quake One has certainly Grown Up since I've been gone!

But it's always held a dear place in my heart.
I had quite a good relationship with Paragon_
creator of DMPlus back in the day.
I had some of his last work back then.
Now all I can find is version 1.0
      Such a shame.

But I've already downloaded most of the needed tools
      to Mod Quake One again.

And with more advanced knowledge of 3D?
I'm pretty sure I can create things I envisioned in years gone by.

I checked out alot of Quake related sites before I decided where to post.
I felt this site was the best site to start.
      Not to technical,
Not to judgemental to a new guy.
Some really good information in all areas.

And some really interesting people to boot.

This stuff is very good. It looks to me as is professionally-type done that I would find in modern games.

Welcome to this site and see you on servers.

The Army Forts are in GWX 2.0 through GWX 3.0
It's a Mod for Silent Hunter 3 by UbiSoft.
We are currently working on GWX 4 for Silent Hunter 4

But I've always loved Quake One and decided it was time to
look into doing some new work for it.

Even if it's just to create a Mod that only a few would play.
One of the Mods I did years ago never got finished.

          I called it
          The Knights of Nit

          A Monty Python based Idea.
Quake 2 came out and I started doing things with that.
          Then Real Life came calling.

I moved into different Games till I got caught up in the Sub Sim stuff.
I started as a Dev in many areas.
Till oneday I found myself as The Project Manager.
After a few months, I stepped down.

I'm much happier as a Dev for Mods then to be placed as the
          Project Manager.

I also moved more from codeing ideas to 3D modeling work.
One of the persons who taught me alot does 3D animations for
Movies and cartoons we see on TV.

He's a fantastic guy in South Africa.
I've had the pleasure of working with people in nearly ever part of this Globe.
And hope to continue doing so with new people.

Hopefully, I'll have a new model of the Vril Pilot soon.
That one was just the start of my vision.
Based off of the Silent Hunter Model.
A proof of concept type thing.

The new model is Totally Steam Punk looking!

That is very interesting.. ..so are you programmer that you integrate your own models into your mods or you just do graphic stuffs?

I have similar passion as you only that I do complicated themed hand-made pencil drawings on everything I can think of ..only that it does not involve computers into creating them ..well only scanning part which is indispensable!

Being very visual person, I love to learn new things too and I am happy you found inspiration in making your grafix game-stuffs.

I had idea for mod once but it never materialized and since I am complete vegetable at programming - and not my field either - it never got done. I thought it was smashing cool idea tho..

                Welcome!

BLATANT PLEE: Quake 1 needs a new GPL player model! There is a faithful remake in the works, but it's pretty high-poly. Something straight forth with the same poly count/frames as the original would be great for compatibility and MDL format, yet inferior, might be a requirement

Yes, I saw that Model you refer to.
                  Very Nice indeed!

I forget his name, but he is good at what he does.
                  No doubt!

I would think perhaps 10% more faces over stock would
be fine with todays systems and the upgraded Engines
                  people are programming?

I'm going to do a few tests to verify this for myself knowledge.
In the SH3 Engine (which came out in 2005),
10% plus works pretty well with newer systems and more memory.
Also, we have no access to source code of any kind to tweak things.
Everything is done by Hex Editing different files.
And that only allows slight changes to coded settings.

Years ago, in Quake C, I coded the math so arrows and such
                  had to follow an arc.
No straight line shots for say, a thrown axe.
You had to aim high to hit your target.

I did this by figureing out the distance on a large map.
Then cross checked how much drop a thrown axe or released
arrow would suffer in the given distance.
Figureing in the speed and weight of the given object?
                  I had a neat effect.
Made hitting a moveing target much more of a challenge.

Some of my past Military training came in handy.

I agree a new Player Model (amongst other models) is needed.
And am surprised that this area seems largely over looked?

But then again, many 3D people want to focus on the newer Games.
They fear the older Games may not handle the work they do?

I'm just a Hobby Modeler and a Hobby Modder.
I do this kind of work because it interests me.
                  And keeps me outta Bars.

                  Can't afford that scene anymore!

I only came across the Vril connection to the Third Reich by accident.
It's quit an interesting read for the most part.

Then if you fall for that sort of thing?
There's a whole bunch of weird things to keep you busy for days,
                    if not weeks!

But it makes for a good Game or Mod background!

The Steam Punk thing is just an Artistic Term.
There is also the Diesel Punk movement.
                    (Whatever that is?)

The Steam Punk thing puts me in mind of
                    Jules Verne's
                    20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
                    by Disney.

I had the chance to see the ONLY working reproductions
of the Helmets and suits used in the original film
while in Hawaii a couple years back.

That was before Steam Punk was an Art form!
But that is Steam Punk at it's Best in my view.
And from alot of what I see?
                    It's a guide.
And a well deserved guide at that.
