well since u are asking for opinions. i think that looks horrible and doesnt fit the model, and has random repeating parts, and looks blatantly garbled... please don't get offended its not meant to be. i appreciate the effort you put into ripping a lot of skins but you have to realize when something looks this bad.It Takes A Tough Man To Make A Tender Rocketjump

If i was the developer of a game and u came to me with this shit, I'd fire u on the spot.
you arent a developer...im not getting paid.
my goal was to get rid of the giant gerbil and replace it with the doom3 hellknight.
I was trying to share something that i know makes the game look more realistic and scary.
lol, now you no talent haters get what you deserve.Last edited by seanstar; 08-08-2010, 09:38 AM.

Sorry, but it doesn't do it for me either. Firstly, it's just too much of a change to one of the iconic Quake monsters for it to be acceptable. Secondly, it seems to be wandering into the territory of "high-res bumpy specular shiny stuff is always better, no matter what", which is just not the case.
For what it's worth, I prefer and use the classic ID Shambler skin. Yes, it's low-res, yes, it doesn't have all the bumpy-specular-shiny stuff, BUT. It has no eyes. It has big teeth (all the better to EAT you with!) It has HUGE bloodstains around it's mouth. It has HUGE bloodstains all over it's claws. The white fur really accentuates those bloodstains.
This one just looks out of place. Full marks for effort, full marks for execution, and I'm not going to knock you on those. But the end result in the context of Q1 just looks WRONG.
Edit to add: I see from reading your posts better that you don't like the look of the original. That's fine, nobody said you had to. But please try to remember that your opinion of something does not apply to everyone else. I haven't seen anyone else complaining about the "giant white gerbil" for example. In fact most people love the Shambler. So yeah, maybe it's a better result for you and is what you want for yourself, and if so that's cool. Nobody's going to say that your own preferences are wrong or bad, what's being said is that they're just not the same as other people's.
One other thing:

I don't know if you noticed, but being a jackass to mh is a bad idea.
Also, for good measure, I pretty closely recreated your bumpmap using only photoshop filters and no drawing. Then you just fed that bumpmap into a normal generator. I didn't try it, but I'm also completely sure that you created the luma using the same method of only applying filters in photoshop.
That's some pretty trite, amateurish bullshit.Last edited by Skutarth; 08-08-2010, 09:59 AM.sigpic

Oh, I don't mind. To be honest, I have far too many good things and more important things going on in my life to be anyway upset or annoyed by one post on an internet forum.
What I would hate to see is a talented and creative contributor get the hump in a bad way over negative feedback for one skin he's done. We all get negative feedback for things from time to time, and we deal with it, move on, and end up producing better stuff as a result. I just think seanstar's reaction is a little - shall we say - extreme. Not just in this thread, but taking down the links to the other stuff he's done in other threads too. That's a bizarre way to react and doesn't reflect good.
Of course it's his work and he's entitled to do with it as he pleases, would never dispute that. But he has been doing some good stuff and he has been contributing well, so I'd like him to see that negative feedback can be meant well and can be a good thing to happen too.IT LIVES! http://directq.blogspot.com/

It's not a big deal to me because I was never planning on releasing it. It was created for personal utility and for close friends. Likewise, you shouldn't be posting things up on the internet and throw a tantrum when people criticize you. I know I don't want to put up with it, so I don't even try.sigpic
