New Banner?

Someone suggested that we update the banner for quakeone with some newer content shots. Since alot of talented people out there spend their time updating the way quake looks i thought we could update the banner as well. Here is my try. I think others should try it as well and we can pick the best one.








I "squished" it into that above picture so it is a little stretched looking. Here is the original and can be sized down better for a better fit.

I feel like it doesn't match the colour scheme.
It should be much more light brown; right now it's very orange.

Oh and the shadow is wrong on the quakeone.com text. Should be about 45 degrees to the bottom right.

that blue streak is a big part of this site. that has to stay, other than that, the shambler looks crazy, the orange is a lil orangy , and good eye on the shadowing bFeared.

HAH i was wondering if someone was going to say something. After i did that i realized wait, the rocket is *here* majority of light coming from tail of rocket, yet shadow is being cast to the left of the letttttters.... i was just being lazy and didnt want to move it.


I do agree the quakeone site has been more brown but i think the picture has enough earth tones in it to match. However, i did stray from things with the whole rocket shot vs using the LG gun. I wanted to show off the shamblers Lightning instead.. I will re-visit the picture and see if i can tone down the orange and focus more on the lightning. I will post a follow up to see what you guys think!

You certainly have enough earth tones but they're much more vibrant than the tones the website has. The site has a very much saturated look. Doing a new banner will be rather hard with all these new fancy effects without completely re-colouring the website. You can feel free to prove me wrong, though I would like it if you could.

point well taken. I have submitted a radical change and now i am going to try and match the original one in color a bit. Tone down the colors a bit especially the orange and see if i can bring out a little more brown/grey as well. Then i will do something with the quakeone.com and the lightning instead of the orange rocket fire.

So the colors probably wont be true of what DP has to offer but the models/textures are updated and i think that shows through.


Also i forgot to add this last night and i feel badly for forgetting them.

I wouldnt have been able to get these great shots to start with without help from:

Seven - Spent numerous hours helping a darkplaces newbie and getting my DP to look amazing!

Opee & FredrickH - Fredrick created the new shambler look and Opee provided a Furrier skin than what Fredrick had. I liked the furry look better than the glossy doom3 look.

Hey Mr Burns,

Absolutely, here are 2 of them. 1st one is the original unedited shot straight from DP. in 2560X1600 resolution. I had to save this as JPG because it was too large to store at image shack. I dont have any place to upload stuff too. If you know of a place or have a place i can upload to, i can send it in any format you want, including the Photoshop PSD with all the layers.

The other is edited, added some extra lightning, made everything a bit more vibrant and brought out a little more blue in the lightning. Also it was trimmed down to banner width. It is still large though and has to be resized for whatever you use it for.

I agree..

Disco's rendition of the Quakeone.com logo makes the current logo look cheap and chincy.

Disco's version has BAWLS!

Hello Disco,

I like your banner, but there are 2 things which should be enhanced:

1.) The rocket trail has a gap. You could close it via Photoshop I guess.
2.) The Text "Quakeone.com". Hmmm something is wrong.
The color could maybe be better (its hard to read)
The shadow has very sharp edges and is too black.
Wrong angle has already been said.

Other than that: Really nice !

It really expresses the new generation look of Quake1.
You are a great artist.
